WASHINGTON (AP) — A House Republican pushing the Trump administration's government efficiency efforts called for dismantling and defunding the nation's public broadcasting system following a contentious hearing Wednesday featuring the heads of PBS and NPR.

"We believe that you all can hate us on your own dime," said Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Coupled with President Donald Trump's declaration on Tuesday that he would "love to" see federal funding cut off, the nation's public broadcasting system is facing perhaps the biggest threat to its existence since it was first established in 1967. The broadcasters get roughly half a billion dollars in public money through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Republicans have frequently grumbled that PBS and NPR news programming leans left, but efforts to cut or eliminate funding usually fade because legislators want to protect their local stations — 336 of them for PBS alone, with those in rural areas most heavily dependent on taxpayer money.

Facts have a liberal bias,right?

Any perk that is available to middle and lower income taxpayers must be cut to allow for trillions in tax cuts for the wealthy in reconciliation.
This would be a big loss to the cultural fabric of America.
I listen to world Cafe and studio one for music.
I watch Iowa state bb tourneys and they just announced football and all bb tourneys will be on pbr.
Fine programming on PBS.
Ken burns docs.
I think gop Congress do not realize how their constituents value these free entertainment outlets.
Blowback will be fierce

Remember all the dumb assholes in HS that you were glad to get away from when you went to college? The ones who would do mean destructive shit just because they thought it was funny? That's today's GOP. All those people realized that they could make more money grifting the MAGAs than anything else and flocked to the GOP.

PBS is great. Wonderful programming. Only traitors and enemies of freedom like northern want it gone. Oh. And intellectually challenged folks too.

I love PBS programming. I don’t typically listen to NPR so I’m not familiar with anything there.
I watch all the British shows PBS carries plus I’m a big fan of Dr. Gates and Finding Your Roots as well as Antique Roadshow. I’ve been a donor to local PBS and wouldn’t consider stopping my donations.
