AP Poll - Iowa #18, Wisconsin #19

We should probably root against MSU as well. There is an outside shot Iowa could get an NY6 at large selection if we win out and end up ranked top 12. As of now it seems like MSU would be a likely pick for NY6 but if they lose to both OSU and PSU then maybe we could sneak in there instead.

I doubt a 10-3/ 10-2 iowa would be ranked in the top 12. Probably our only chance at NY6 is to win the BTC- and then it likely doesnā€™t matter what the 2nd and 3rd place teams in the east do.

that being said Iā€™m happy to root against MSU pretty much at all times

10-2 and Wisconsin getting demolished by OSU is probably our best scenario for a bowl game.

OSU - 12-1
Michigan 10-2
Iowa - 10-2
MSU - 9-3
Wisc - 9-4
PSU - 8-4
Purdue 8-4
Minn 7-5
MD/Rutgers 6-6

The odds of this happening are probably 5% but if Michigan drops below us as well then we could go to the Rose Bowl at 10-2. We arenā€™t that far out of the top 12 now so I donā€™t think itā€™s super far fetched for us to end up there. It would help if we won with some style points, which is probably pretty unlikely.

Yeah, Iowa needs several breaks, in addition to winning out (Assuming Wisky also wins out):

1) Need the B1G East to shake out where OSU, Mich or Mich St pick up a 3rd loss. The most likely scenario would be for OSU to win out and for MSU to lose vs. PSU.

2) Need BYU to lose at USC (They're inexplicably 6 spots ahead of Iowa in the CFP rankings, and beating 2 teams with losing records won't be enough for Iowa to leapfrog them).

3) Need Oregon to lose at Utah, as this situation would eliminate any chance of a 2nd Pac-12 team in the NY6

4) Need Wisky to lose BTCG

The above chain of events would almost certainly result in Iowa playing the Big 12 runner-up in the Fiesta Bowl.

There aren't many guarantees in life, but I think one of them is that the B1G West runner-up is not going to the Rose Bowl...

Love the Hawks and all, but Bucky is just plain better this year. Seems a little surprising given their ugly 1-3 start, but they left no doubt in smacking us around last week.

Iā€™ll take it, but itā€™s pretty laughable that weā€™re ranked above them. Sure, our record is one win better, but who are we kidding?

I expect both NE and Mn to play Wisconsin tough. I still expect them to win but unlike Rutgers and jNW who they played last 2 games that really had no chance. Especially NW with bad rush D. Nebraska D has played the run tough and maybe for once they donā€™t piss a close game down their leg (not going to hold my breath on that). MN at home be a fun matchup their OL vs WI D. That game both teams looking to run it down the others throat. Minny been very Jekyll and Hyde this year so who knows what teams shows up for that rivalry game.

Thatā€™s pretty impressive, honestly. Which makes the fact Iowa hasnā€™t won the West since 2015 all the more head scratching. I know some fans wonā€™t like this, but that winning percentage has a lot to do with beating inferior non-conference opponents and Iowa State. In fact, when is the last time Iowa lost a non-conference game outside of a bowl game? Iowa State 2014?

Donā€™t get me wrong. The record speaks to the consistency of the program and is impressive. However, that winning percentage is mostly reflective of beating Iowa State, MAC and directional schools, and the bottom feeders of the B1G Ten (like Nebraska, Illinois, etc.). For every win against Ohio State and Michigan, there are at least two WTF? losses to Northwestern and Purdue. Frankly, Northwestern and Purdue are largely why Iowa hasnā€™t won the West since 2015.

MN is for real. Especially at home in a rivalry game, I think they have a very legit shot at knocking off Bucky.

NE has the talent but I donā€™t see it in Camp Randall. I think weā€™ll be lucky to get out of Memorial Stadium with a W.

Wisconsin is the Iowa of the 2000s. They start slow out of the gate then begin to gel come October.

Yeah Iowa's gonna be promoting that "since the start of the 2015 season" thing for quite some time...

Other teams on this list do not play any inferior conference games?

"Pretty unlikely"? I always love understatement.

It's virtually impossible unless KF and BF resign in the next few hours. You did hear KF explain his "strategy" at the end of the Minny game yesterday, right? Of course, you didn't need to hear that if you've been an Iowa fan the last 23 years.

The difference between how this season has unfolded between these 2 teams was in the early schedule and offensive improvement. They faced 3 very good defenses with an offense that was struggling with a bad QB behind an offensive line that had yet to gel. Since then the offensive line has become completely dominant running the ball, like all Badger lines seem to do, and Mertz has become a game manager. Iowa's offense OTH has continued to struggle.
