AP Poll - Iowa #18, Wisconsin #19

The difference between how this season has unfolded between these 2 teams was in the early schedule and offensive improvement. They faced 3 very good defenses with an offense that was struggling with a bad QB behind an offensive line that had yet to gel. Since then the offensive line has become completely dominant running the ball, like all Badger lines seem to do, and Mertz has become a game manager. Iowa's offense OTH has continued to struggle.
This is true. I fear that with the switch to a new offensive line coach coupled with a lot of young tackles that Iowa will not have a good oline this year. If they can somehow pull it together by the next game, great. Otherwise Iowa will not be running the ball well the rest of the year.

MN is for real. Especially at home in a rivalry game, I think they have a very legit shot at knocking off Bucky.

NE has the talent but I don’t see it in Camp Randall. I think we’ll be lucky to get out of Memorial Stadium with a W.
Then how did they lose to a pedestrian MAC team at home?

This. Overachieving and a fortunate schedule
These have been our cross over opponents. We have had some good luck in the schedule department.

2015- Maryland and Indiana, Michigan State (championship)
2016- Rutgers, Penn State, Michigan
2017- Penn State, Michigan State, OSU
2018- Indiana, Maryland, Penn State
2019- Rutgers, Michigan, Penn State
2020- Michigan State, Penn State
2021- Indiana, Maryland, Penn State

Penn State x6 (protected rival), Indiana x3, Maryland x3, Michigan State x3, Rutgers x2, Michigan x2, Ohio State 1x.

Love the Hawks and all, but Bucky is just plain better this year. Seems a little surprising given their ugly 1-3 start, but they left no doubt in smacking us around last week.

I’ll take it, but it’s pretty laughable that we’re ranked above them. Sure, our record is one win better, but who are we kidding?

I think Wis is better but wouldn't it be fun to have a re-do where we don't give them the ball 3 times inside our 15 and a QB that isn't a sack magnet.

Excellent question. I know they pushed us all over the field and pretty much dominated the line of scrimmage, along with every stat outside of the score. They also beat a very good Purdue team on the road -- the same Purdue team that kicked our ass in Kinnick. Presumably they overlooked Bowling Green in a big way. Whatever the case, the Gophs are good enough to beat Bucky at home, I have no doubt.

FWIW 2020 was supposed to include Ohio State until COVID blew up the original schedule.

I expect both NE and Mn to play Wisconsin tough. I still expect them to win but unlike Rutgers and jNW who they played last 2 games that really had no chance. Especially NW with bad rush D. Nebraska D has played the run tough and maybe for once they don’t piss a close game down their leg (not going to hold my breath on that). MN at home be a fun matchup their OL vs WI D. That game both teams looking to run it down the others throat. Minny been very Jekyll and Hyde this year so who knows what teams shows up for that rivalry game.
Yeah really depends how much fight both Nebraska and Minnesota have in them. Nebraska could/can absolutely beat Wisconsin, but given what has happened this week at Nebraska I wonder how much the team really wants to play. Minnesota can stand up to Wisconsin physically, but again comes down to how into it they are. If Iowa wins out, by the time Minnesota and Wisconsin would play on 11/27 Minnesota would know they can't win the West. At that point, only motivation would be the Axe, which does mean a lot for them.

Wisconsin improved a lot and if they win out will deserve to be there, but Mertz is still not good. If any team can just have the game tied or get a lead on Wisconsin in the second half, Mertz is a mistake waiting to happen. But Badgers have just bullied everyone so bad in their winning streak that Mertz can't lose the game for them.

Yeah, and if you think that’s confusing, just go look at Illinois’ season so far. They are even more Jekyll and Hyde and seem to play close whether they are playing a great team or a terrible team.

Think the headline will be "debbie does nothing" against wisky.

badger D will take care of business and come up with at least a couple of TOs. debbie D hasn't shown they can stop much when it counts.

Since that 2015 season, our crossover winning % is slightly better than our B1G winning %.

2016 - 2021
Overall B1G record: 32-19, 62.75%
Crossover B1G record: 11-6, 64.71%
B1G West record: 21-13, 61.77%

Schedule makers definitely could have made it worse, but with the schedule we were given it worked out well for us.

gawd we shit the bed this year
