Because they sure look like they belong.

It's only been 3 games and we haven't had the proverbial monkey wrench thrown into the mix to see how we respond, but other than Fleming we don't look rattled and seem to know where to be and how run whatever we're running.

I think Dale Jones looks like he belongs and both Ellingson and Baer have benefited from a redshirt year in the system. Honestly, they do the graphic on TV about our 10 "new" players and they talk about the freshmen playing, but outside of Wagner I think most of our bench time is going to come from 2 guys who have been in the system at least a year and a juco transfer. Our bench isn't quite as green as it appears.

One thing is for sure, JUCO transfers are a frickin crapshoot. Jones looks like he belongs, just needs some polish. Compare that with Dickerson, who just couldn't figure it out from the moment he got here.

Agreed. I expect to see a much better Fleming next year after he gets down the scheme. My biggest concern going forward is pg play. Really hope Bohannon's the real deal, cuz Williams looks like quite a bit of a drop off from what we have with Gesell & Clemmons.

I do think Williams is going to get better because he appears to have good tools and a good attitude. However, the biggest concern going into 2016 is certainly going to be PG the way it's looking right now. F/SG will be covered and though we'll miss Woody's post D, Cook and our PFs will ease that loss.

They look like they belong because they have a coach who knows what he is doing.

The 2nd group isn't perfect but they are doing exactly what they need to do which is spell our starters with effective minutes. They are all doing a good job and that's a testimony of Fran McCaffery and his ability as a coach.

What I liked was when Marquette came out with a 8-0 run to start the 2nd half..it didn't take Fran very long to call TO. I think it was at this point...a camera was coming in on the Iowa huddle and someone put their hand over the camera.

Fleming will come along as time goes on. But yes I agree the young guys coming off the bench...and you know what? They will get even better under Fran.

I think Williams will be fine. Give him a year to get used to the speed of the game and figure out what he can and can't do at this level. Guy is long and can guard multiple positions which Fran loves.

I expect there to be struggles. There have to be.

By the second half of the B1G season, you'll see who's continued to "get it".

Fran saw something in Williams..that is a good start. Williams has a terrific upside and a coach that knows how to teach.

I think Williams looked ok. He made no noticeable mistakes and looked great on D especially when we were in the zone. He disrupted the passing lane. He will continue to get more comfortable. I think he will be able to play point by next year.

One difference between the two was that even in college, Dickerson played in an out-of-control, and wild style. He wasn't a great shooter either. Obviously Fran felt like he could take the raw talent and channel it, but was never able to. There were questions about Jones as well, but we knew he could shoot the three and we knew he could rebound. The only question was whether he could defend at a division one level, and he's answered the call so far.

In other words, I think Trey was recruited more on upside but Jones has skills that can (and are already) benefit the team, it's just a matter of making sure the rest of his game is up to speed.

A key for Williams will be his ability to push the ball in transition. The way Mike moves the ball up the floor is something Williams should try to emulate.

I expected that Fleming, with his experience at Oak Hill, would be able to come in and be ready to play immediately. I was wrong.

I was also wrong about Ellingson - he's much more capable inside the arc than I had expected.

Yep, Point guard a definite concern next year. Not that we will be bad next year, but I expect some serious growing pains. Luckily they will have a year under experience where they are not expected to do too much. They won't be completely thrown into the fire.

I would emphasize that just a little while back concern was being expressed about Uhl. And, it is not coincidence that the guys that have shown up are he, Jones, Baer, Ellingson. The only true frosh to make a statement is Wagner. Reason? Experience. Jones is three years older. Uhl played a year already. Ellingson and Baer have been in the system for a year.

It's great that Wagner has emerged first, but the other four true frosh? I would not get in a hurry to assess them. Especially not to discount them.

Much to early to judge Williams as a point. I remember Marble playing point as a freshman and even as a sophomore and lots of people were adamant that he had no business playing the point. I think he proved them wrong and now he is in the NBA because of his versatility as a combo guard.

I think Iowa will be ok with Williams and Bohannon at PG. Iowa is going to have a drop off at that spot next year though. The only way they wouldn't have is if they brought in a Tyus Jones type of player which obviously isn't going to happen.

This is what I'm talking about. CW has some good upside. But he and Bohannon are going to be a bigger drop off than at any other position next year because those guys need some development. Other positions will have much more returning experience.

Fleming had 3 assists on only 8 minutes and would have had two more if his teammates had caught the passes, which were on target. They didn't and those went into the record as 2 turnovers on him. He is probably trying too hard to make the pass instead of shooting first like in the first game, but he and the others on the team will get more comfortable with each other as they play more.

I really like CW's length at the point guard. From my observation, he needs to get the outlet and give the ball up earlier like Mike G does. He always seems to take the extra 2 dribbles and then it's too late. That will come no doubt about it. Our Hawks are looking good and great fun to watch. Go Hawks!!
