Are they really THAT bad...?

Holy God... If true how does that even happen???

Iowa has 1,212 more yards punting than gained on offense this season with one half to go. No other FBS team has more punt yards than yards on offense

So you haven't been paying attention the last couple years Mr Castaway?

I knew it was bad just didn't know it was literally possible to rack up more yards PUNTING than actual offense. Saw that stat and it blew my mind

You have to try to be this bad on offense, so with that in mind, Iowa was really damn successful.
I keep wondering what Division level you would have to go down to before Iowa's Deacon Hill led passing game would work. Obviously they would be able to run all over pretty much any D-2 or FCS team but I bet the passing stats would still be subpar (if they even tried to pass) against a D-2 team. It's scheme that in 2023 is basically set up to fail against any level of competition.

Deacon Hill takes a lot of fire for how bad that OL was. Do not think I’ve seen an OL unit so confused about what they are supposed to be doing at the point of attack so often.

Wow... FSU fans talk often about how bad our Jeff Bowden "rainbow offense" was but those teams still put up 4-5k yards of offense per season, give or take.

I'm starting to wonder if the whole "punting is winning" thing is not a joke to Ferentz, but is actually what he believes.
It's no secret.

Move the ball well enough to pin them inside the 20. Play for a turnover or shanked punt. Get good field position.

If that doesn't work, then get them to punt, move the bal well enough to pin them inside the 20. Rinse Repeat.

That's the "complimentary" football. Everything works great if the D can generate turnovers like the first half of 2021 and most of 2022. Things fall apart when the turnovers stop and players like Hill hand them the ball inside the 5.

The line was bad at times, but often times they gave Hill enough time. Hill took a long time to go through progressions. Plus once our recievers run their route they just kind of stop and never try to get open. None of that matters anyway bc Hill couldn't roll out of the pocket to save his life.

I think our OL coach is bad, but I also think our WR coach is actually worse.

Iowa's leading reciever, Eric All, only had 299 receiving yards and only played 7 games.

that's f*cking god awful.

Yep, other teams can basically send nine guys after the QB with no fear of a downfield passing attack. Hard to look good as an OL if you are the ones being double teamed.

To me the only time the OL looked good was vs inferior front 7’s. That didn’t have the personnel strong/quick enough to blow up plays. Otherwise it was just hope and pray u could get some field position scores or D TD’s

Can’t believe Kirk didn’t just tell the new AD he would retire at the end of the season and avoid dragging his reputation and son’s reputation through the meat grinder.

Kirk looks like a crazy old out of touch buffoon and this point and Brian looks like a spoiled brat that doesn’t deserve to coach at any level of college.

It’s not like Kirk is going to reinvent himself and do anything memorable going forward.

Weird, I guess you can never have too much money and power is intoxicating.

It's too bad that the last 3 seasons we haven't moved the ball well enough.
