I'm starting to wonder if the whole "punting is winning" thing is not a joke to Ferentz, but is actually what he believes.
I keep wondering what Division level you would have to go down to before Iowa's Deacon Hill led passing game would work. Obviously they would be able to run all over pretty much any D-2 or FCS team but I bet the passing stats would still be subpar (if they even tried to pass) against a D-2 team. It's scheme that in 2023 is basically set up to fail against any level of competition.
I think that’s what it was for Iowa. Too complicated. If you hop on you left foot while touching your nose with your right hand, it might work. Reminds me of Joe Walton’s offense at Pittsburgh.
They average 3 or 4 yards every possession and 50 yards every punt. Do the math.

The line was bad at times, but often times they gave Hill enough time. Hill took a long time to go through progressions. Plus once our recievers run their route they just kind of stop and never try to get open. None of that matters anyway bc Hill couldn't roll out of the pocket to save his life.
Iowa's leading reciever, Eric All, only had 299 receiving yards and only played 7 games.
Yep, other teams can basically send nine guys after the QB with no fear of a downfield passing attack. Hard to look good as an OL if you are the ones being double teamed.
To me the only time the OL looked good was vs inferior front 7’s. That didn’t have the personnel strong/quick enough to blow up plays. Otherwise it was just hope and pray u could get some field position scores or D TD’s
True, but hard to protect the ball if guys are getting free shots at u too. Plenty of blame to go around. Bottom line Hill shouldn’t be in any decent D-1 teams quarterback room.
