* The Official FSU @ UM Gameday Thread *

not gonna lie…I’m dreading TC reposting my ex-wife’s podcast at some point. Hope it never gains that much traction.

Serious question to our FSU guests; what the hell happened to you guys? You're just a few years removed from winning a national championship. You really should be in the mix for your conference title every single year. You may not have the beaches that Miami has, but you're deep in rich recruiting ground.

Many of us are asking the same thing. I honestly worry about the Charleston Southern game at this time.

Good for him. He has another 2 years to fix this since FSU signed a check their ass can't cash. Need to get that BIG / SEC money to make a change early. And Mike is currently driving that stock way down this season.

Dude has a lot of work to do and IMO there isn't a reason to wait until December to start making changes. If FSU was serious, they start yanking cords in about 3 more weeks (no sense in doing it now, no one quality to fill the position yet). Esp if its for the next 2 or 3 years vs an interim position.

There are a couple head coaches that will be available in a few more weeks and he is gonna need to pull in some serious ass kickers. "If you drop the ball, you will sit. As a WR, you have 2 jobs, run and then catch. If you can't catch, you serve no purpose."

The special teams and defense have kept us in every game except SMU.
Offensive play calling has yet to adapt to “who we are” as an offensive team. Gotta get the ball into playmakers hands in space, ‘cause we can’t block. (Toa, where art thou?)

Gotta bring on the young tight ends, as they don’t seem to have “caught” the dropsies. Roll Brock and Luke out, give them a survivor’s chance. Forget the WR screen at this point, it is a drive killer.

Embrace that the OL is like a chain link fence in a rain storm, they ain't stopping nothing. Just move the pocket and embrace there is never gonna be a pocket this season.

Pressure on Norvell to turn the program around quickly after Taggart left. The program had several years of weak recruiting and Taggart left the cupboard bare. Norvel took a shortcut to quick success by raiding the portal for star players and built a solid team from that. The problem with that route is portal transfers are often in their last year or so and we didn’t have the steady influx of quality recruits to build the program over time so when last years portal transfers left, norvel had to reload from the portal and this time it didn’t work out.

Not the only issue but I think that is a big part of it.

And losing a fantastic QB and leader

So Mike pulls Brock after 2 series, let Luke play a majority of the game…only to put Brock back in during garbage minutes? JFC. HBC is an absolute joke.
Fans would be screaming if he pulled Luke after the first series. He played better and should've stayed in.

It’s seemed like he made a decision on which QB he was going with (Luke). That kid needs all the snaps he can get at this point. You don’t go back to Brock for meaningless reps at the end of the game. Thats a good way to piss off Brock (and his family), while letting everyone know you can’t make hard decisions. Doesn’t bode well for what he needs to do with the staff going forward.

Then again, how pissed would we be if Luke had gotten injured in garbage time with the game out of reach?

Yes, I know, hard to try to spin this turd in a punch bowl of a season. However, at last night’s Halloween party as some of us commiserated how sad it was after the game we were all “hey, alright, Miami did not humiliate us as much as they wanted to. Whohoo” I began realizing this horrific season has really come down to only one massive fail of the team on offense coupled with a head coach frozen like a video buffering to do anything about it

Reality is, our special teams are honestly of a caliber of a playoff team, period. Our defense, while not elite or top tier and frustrating at times, is pretty decent and has kept us in every single game until it wears down due to turnovers, too much time on field, and when the loss becomes inevitable. Defense IMHO is a a solid top 25-50 type unit. Heck we made jokes last week how we should have just kneeled down and let defense win game and last night they had Cam Ward throwing his helmet on sideline in 4th quarter, first time all year he has been frustrated. Lastly, I will add that I like Brock and especially like Luke so we even have perhaps some stuff there for the future.

So the amazing and glass half empty part of this all time program’s worse season at 1-7 (with likely just one more win coming) is it is due to how horrendously bad our Offensive Line, Running Backs, WR/TE are overall, not the entire team. The offensive unit is shockingly broken and of FCS caliber. Scratch that, of mid level FCS level. They are like one of the worst offenses fielded by a major conference program in last 20 years.

Compounding this, is Mike’s crisis he is clearly going through right now resulting from not getting over the playoff snub nor being able to do anything to try to fix the offense or change it up to gut out some more wins with the aforementioned great ST and decent Defensive unit.

Cliff’s notes: it’s not an overall team collapse but an offensive unit collapse coupled with a coach having a confidence / mojo crisis and so in theory this could be quicker to turnaround IF the coach can get his swagger back and make the much needed changes in staff and recruiting on offense.

It’s not the entire team at all.

There's some truth there; with just a mediocre offense we'd be, at worst, .500. The wretched offensive line is inexplicable; it's almost the exact same lone that has been there the last two seasons (3 seasons for several). In those years, Benson came close to 1000 yards and we had an above average ypc for all of our backs. They certainly benefitted from the threat of Travis running, but we ran the ball better in the games he was injured than we have this year.

I wouldn’t be pissed at all, that’s football. Luke (and Brock) have super thin resumes, why should either be protected at this point? It’s also been “garbage time” since BC. Neither qb drastically changes the trajectory of this season, team, or program. Why fear an injury? Would Brock being injured at the end of the game sit better with you? There is no difference between the last drive of the Miami game, and the first drive of the UNC game (as far injury goes).

Yep. And the horrible drops all year and zero playmaker / speedster. Like we have zero big runs to the house from a RB or WR after catch. I feel the entire team is slooooooowwww. Almost like I wonder if we rolled out a new regiment off season for speed and agility that was a fail.

This is where I’m torn on is it the worst luck I’ve ever seen or just terrible talent in the skill guys. There’s never an extra broken tackle, defender slips or takes a really bad angle, or whiffs completely. Things that all college defenses do just don’t happen against us.

There's little to no passing threat now. Our passing used to open up our running game.
