“They don’t really balance the budget in a way that any normal person thinks they’re balancing the budget,” said sports economist Victor Matheson, a professor at the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts, in a recent interview with The Republic. “So the term ‘balance the budget’ is wrong. All they’ve done is waved a magic wand, in this case an accountant’s pen, and they ‘balanced the budget’ by moving money from ‘this place’ to ‘this place’ until the two numbers on both sides of the ledger balanced out.”
