Long term, the Southern border of Mexico is the bigger concern. Set up something there to create a natural barrier. So we can control immigration flows for labor purposes. And we don’t have to worry about changing administrations. With that system set up. We could process more Latin American migrants for jobs that need filled in the agriculture, hospitality, construction, and home care fields. 40% of agriculture labor is performed by undocumented immigrants. Simply can not Live without that labor pool.
Ultimately right now Trump’s actions are going to raise prices and cause strain in several industries. That as a consumption economy will take years to decades to correct. This whole idea of short term wins. Without plans of dealing with the consequences is moronic. It was similar to repealing ACA without any plans to replace it. NAFTA would also be another example of not having plans for dealing with the consequences of removing manufacturing from rural communities. Should have been massive spending for reeducation in those areas to counteract the negative consequences of cheaper foreign labor.
