Austin Ash came back to get playing time

Bohannon's minutes. I'm hoping that Bohannon gets no more than 20 min per game.

Here's how I think/hope the minutes will be divided up. Obviously, it will vary from game to game, but this is my best guess as of late June 2021.

PG: Toussaint 25, Ulis 10, Bohannon 5
SG: Bohannon 15, Perkins 15, Ulis 5, Ash 5
SF: Patrick 25, Connor 10, Sandfort 5
PF: Keegan 30, Kris 10
C: Rebraca 20, Ogundele 10, Kris 5, Mulvey 5

Well Frank whatever you think/hope, if Cmac is healthy I'd be stunned if he only plays 10 minutes a game, stunned, shocked whatever. I'd totally agree that I just don't see where he fits on this roster as someone without a real position and what would appear better options at every spot, but I just don't think he comes back and Fran doesn't play him.

I understand that you dislike Bohannon, but if you think Ash is a better option than JBo, you're sadly mistaken. There is absolutely no evidence that Austin could play D against some of the other guards in the league, nor is there evidence that he could shoot a higher 3 point percentage than Bohannon against the other team's starters. Austin is what he is and it's a nice feel good story for the Hawks, but if he realistically wanted to play a lot of minutes and be a factor in basketball games, he should have chosen differently.

Yeah, I agree. I do think Connor has value and could easily see him getting 20 min, I just couldn't predict how and/or where.

However, there is plenty of evidence that Bohannon can't play D against the other guards in the league.

I'm not saying that Ash is going to get lots of minutes, but I do think he can play the role of the 5th guard and get a handful of minutes.

Our board would lose their collective mind if we are going to a 13 man rotation.

Lil Lick. Part Deux. Extremely white ballin'
This comment is pretty harsh...Ash is 1000% better then Lil Lick and it's not even close. Should Ash get meaningful minutes? Not unless there's major injuries that deplete the roster, but Ash can play just as Riley Till provided minutes during the last year he was on the roster. Come on people, don't sweat the small stuff, of the 12 scholarship players we have on the roster Ash will be the last scholarship player that will see the floor, that is not redshirted.

Totally agree that if Ash is getting meaningful minutes, we are in trouble. But 20 minutes out of Connor might just be about as bad. We have some real running and jumping potential this year, Connor squashes that and adds no shot making ability.

Lil Lick was starting point guard on a City High team that won the state championship in Iowa's big school classification. Lick looked slow vs Big Ten competition; Ash, if given minutes vs Big Ten starters, would look worse IMO.

Im hoping once JBRO realizes no one wants to give him money he'll just quit.

I think he's already making money as of yesterday. He's way ahead of the game.

If Austin Ash is playing "meaningful minutes" next year then Iowa is in trouble.

Not at all.

After all, Iowa will be blowing out teams left & right and splASH will be in there, closing things out.

After all, when you have splASH after splASH, there will be plenty of water to mop up!!! splASH is the definition of mop up duty!!!

And no, I have not been drinking!!! ;)

And now I would like @EvilMonkeyInTheCloset to chime in with 2 words. First words starts with an "N." Second word starts with a "C."

I'm a little bewildered by the sheer hatred for JBo from some on this board. Why not try and focus on what he has produced as a basketball player? He either holds or is threatening so many all-time records at Iowa and is an absolute clutch FT shooter at the end of games. Not to mention the big shots he has made to win games. Do other team's fans hate their players like Iowa fans?

Sheer hatred is probably an exaggeration.

Personally I'm just sick of him.

Sticking around for a 6th year to get records and make money is not going to help winning.

I don't see his presence as a positive this year.

The key word here is meaningful.

Meaningful in this case means of importance to the outcome of a game.

If Ash is seeing meaningful minutes, the only defensible reason would be that the team has been devastated by injuries or something even more catastrophic that eliminated other players on the roster as options.

Who's minutes will he take?

Wouldn't want him on the team unless he is willing to work hard enough to push the other players. If he can't, so be it. But at least he has the attitude and confidence.

Hatred is definitely an exaggeration.
Like you, I've just had enough of his schtick at this point.
I'm in favor of players making money from their likeness, within an agreed upon framework. Best of luck to him in that. It's time, though, that he do it having ended his stint on the men's b-ball roster.
Agree that his presence is not a positive.

This. At a time when almost all of our proven 3 point threats are gone, we have a returning vet that will break the B1G 3 point record unless more injuries force him out of the lineup.

He's not a thoroughbred, like some of our young players, but neither was last years POY. They just produce results.

Ash, in his mop-up appearances, has show nothing but one of the most awkward shots I've ever seen at any level. He's nowhere near a great defender or ball handler. If he thinks he can play meaningful minutes, well, as others have noted, Iowa basketball is in trouble. Sorry, but reality is what it is.

BTW: As for JBo, his in-your-face attitude has turned some people off. So be it. When he has been healthy, he's been one of the greatest clutch 3-point shooters of recent memory. People who attack him are likely suffering from a lack of self respect and are trying to compensate by attacking someone who has actually accomplished something. As a shooting guard, a healthy JBo will be a huge boost to the Hawkeyes next season.

How do we know?

The only time we've seen Ash on the court is during Chips n Salsa time.

Lick wouldn’t even have been the best guy in rec league. Sure he had his handful of shiny happy moments but the kid was not good.
I don’t expect much meaningful from Ash but I’m certainly taking him before Lick in a draft and it’s not that close.
