B12 stays at 10

They are going to get paid not to expand by ESPN, FOX. The key for this league's survival is the extension of the grant of rights. If that does not happen it could be an indicator that UT and/or OK is bye-bye ... which is good night Big 12 as a power 5 member.

Husker fans have no lost live for the big12. We do miss the big8, but the big12 was never right.

there is an interesting article on espn. the last paragraph below is telling. some excerpts:

In July, the Big 12 announced that expansion was back on the table. Candidates surfaced and lobbying began, especially in Texas. The Big 12 eventually narrowed the pool to 12 schools. Of those, six -- Houston, BYU, Cincinnati, Connecticut, South Florida and Central Florida -- generated the most attention.

In the end, none received enough support from the Big 12 presidents. The Big 12 remains a 10-team league with a footprint, other than Texas, that covers a sparsely populated area of the country. It is still the only Power 5 league without its own television network. It is still a league that has seen its football recruiting suffer in recent years and could have benefited from members in new regions.

Were there any great candidates out there? No, not with the potential toxicity swirling around BYU. But think about some of the recent Power 5 expansion additions: Maryland, Rutgers, Colorado, Utah, TCU, West Virginia, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, even Louisville.

How many of those were or are considered home runs? None. But some have added value, including TCU, a conference nomad which quickly became one of the better Big 12 football programs. If the Big 12 really wanted to give this process its due, it should have looked for the next TCU, projecting 5-10 years out rather than talking in circles. And if the Big 12 is ultimately doomed in the long-term, adding members would have brought a short-term financial windfall, which could help current members who won't find soft landing spots if the conference dissolves.

In not expanding and, equally important, not extending its grant of rights, the Big 12 possibly signed its own death warrant Monday. It remains the most vulnerable league. The loss of one more heavyweight, Texas or Oklahoma, likely would TKO the conference. "A very bad strategic move," a source close to the process told ESPN.com. "Painfully incremental decision-making."

Sounds like ESPN went in ISU and K State dry. By paying not to expand Texas and Oklahoma vote no to new schools keeping them there only until the GOR expires. After that I'd bet UT and OU say see ya nerds.

And hopefully ISU to some third world conference.

Not a bit surprised that Bowlsby is involved in a situation described as "A very bad strategic move," and "Painfully incremental decision-making." After the Davis and Stoops fiascos, it seemed to me his chief talent was self -promotion.

excellent points; also, they spent a lot of time and money for doing nothing

Having watched the Big XII function over the years, Bowlsby is a million miles from from being the issue. If anything, the guy has helped. It is has downgraded from a tire fire, to a dumpster fire since he assumed the role of commissioner.

Sums up his decision making at Iowa.

Take a look at this video clip, where Bowlsby is ripped over the 15 month process and the hiring of 2 consulting firms. 17 schools were considered, yet none where chosen. As you will see, schools spent a lot of money presenting to the Big XII why they should be chosen for expansion, only to be denied. Finebaun calls what Bowlsby did a complete charade. He says "long term, I think this league is done."

From the outside, it looks like Boren pushed the expansion charade, and Bowlsby was doing what his bosses wanted him to do.

Texas and KU to the big 10. OU, Okie State to the SEC. Notre Dame and UConn to the ACC and then the Pac-12 takes BYU and 3 more and we have the 64 team power 4 conferences.

Big 12 schools WVa, Baylor, Texas Tech, TCU, isu and K-State to battle out with Boise State, Houston, Memphis and Cincinnati for the 3 spots in the Pac-12.

Don't want Texas. They can go ACC, or Indy, or whoever takes them. I don't even think the SEC would take them now. SEC has the Texas footprint with A&M.

BIG won't happen for Texas as they are owned by ESPN with the LHN until the 2030's. The BIG is FOX territory.

OU and KU to the BIG.

Is that so? When the cornholers joined the Big 10, they were saying how it's such a joke compared to the Big 12. That the Big 12 was so much tougher. Now they're nowhere to be found. Probably attending its funeral.

I am a Nebraska fan. I can assure you that most fans didnt see it that way. We did see the big12 as tougher at the time with UT, OU, A&M, MU, TT, OSU and Nebraska all playing at a good level. But only a troll would say that would always be the case. And sure the Big12 was stronger when we left, but the Big10 is considerably improved since then.

Back to the point. The BIG >>>>>>>>> Big12

Let's just divide this up geographically into 8 x 8 team regions. The winner of each region gets 1 of 8 playoff bids.

Game Schedule
1 - Non Power 64
2 - Power 64 Cross over
3 - Non Power 64
4 - Power 64 Cross over
5 - P64 Region
6 - P64 Region
7 - P64 Region
8 - P64 Region
9 - P64 Region
10 - P64 Region
11 - P64 Region
12 - Playoff Round 1 / Challenge Week

Week 12 the 8 region winners are seeded and face off. The remaining Power 64 are matched in a final cross-over by region finish; 2 v 2, 3 v 3, 4 v 4, etc.

After week 12, 4 playoff teams remain along with other eligible teams will flow into the current bowl system.

With this format we can forget the stupid conferences thing all-together and play as the power 64. Negotiate a single contract as one entity. Everyone plays under the same format.
