B1G Top 10 AP finishes - Last 15 years

While I love what Ferentz has done (and it truly is amazing to see stats like that) it's the years years outside of the top 10 years that frustrate the fan base. It's a 8-4 and 7-5 season that frustrates. Right or wrong I think Iowa should consistently be a 9 win team with the up seasons being 10-12 wins like we have seen in the top 10 years.

All that said, next year on paper looks great. Need to get off to 5-0 start and see what happens.

i think people have to remember that there is a lot of parity in college football. N'western and Wisconsin used to be push overs when Fry was coach; now, its much harder to beat them. With the 85 scholarship limit, its leveled the playing field. Its not easy to win games at the D-1 level.

Also, when your home state does not produce a lot of D-1 talent, it makes recruiting hard because you have to scour the entire country and hope you can convince a kid to not stay close to home and come to Iowa, instead.

Just these 2 factors alone help explain why Iowa has these up and down years.

Yes indeed, props to Iowa for taking the KSU blueprint on scheduling. You're team is a fraud and everyone outside your fan base know this to be true. Love how history in the eyes of hawk fan started in 2002. Whatever fits your agenda I guess.

The most recent 15 year period is a fair time frame (he took 2001 as well, but you probably missed that). I'm sorry your team either sucks or used to be good, otherwise you wouldn't be on this board complaining ...

Sour grapes taste delicious, no?

Being neutral, history in sports should be 10 years. No more, no less.
Neutral? No other CFB program fan base looks at just the past 10 years. It's fine, it fits your narrative. When ESPN does a 30 for 30 on hawk football and calls it, "The Ten Year History of Hawk Football" I will definitely watch. Hawks have more top ten finished in that time frame then The U and I suppose to you that means hawk football has a much stronger program than Miami. The U will always have a stronger CFB history than the Hawks no matter what snapshot you use, and the same goes for 15 more teams minimum and at least 4 in the B1G. Hawks have really good seasons and really poor seasons, but never a stretch of even 5 years of greatness.

I do not see a problem looking at recent history to gauge where a program stacks up to others, obviously you could tweak the criteria to meet an agenda. But what fan base doesn't do this to have a little fun. I mean its not like we are Nebby fans who base their arguements on success 25+ years ago. I do not see how you have a problem with a fan base taking the most recent history and comparing it with other Big Ten teams. You argument of Miami is pretty piss poor too, Miami is just like the scenario that you describe as the Hawks with really good seasons and even worse than Iowa seasons. Hawkeye football is much stronger that Miami football in many many ways: Fanbase, revenue, actually having our own stadium, academics, and stability (Miami goes through coaches like they are going out of style, even when they are good)

Your team finished under .500 this year and Iowa thumped you at home again.

Nebraska hasn't been ranked in the Top 10 since before most school aged kids were born. Iowa, on the other hand, just ended the season ranked 9th. (For the 5th time since all those kids were born)

Go get your shine box.

Here's how many times the best of the B1G teams have finished in the top 25 using the original posters time frame:

tOSU - 13
Wisc - 9
Mich - 8
MSU - 6
Neb - 6
IA - 5

Ironically this is also how the nation, outside of hawk fan, views the power ranking of the B1G. Even hawks best 10-15 year run is middle of the pack in B1G. Go back just 10 years and IA has only 2 top 25 finishes, pretty weak. Just the facts and they cannot be disputed.

.

I'm pretty sure we have 6 as well, tying us with neb and msu. Except 5 of our 6 were top 10 rankings :). You were wrong on Iowa's totals and possibly wrong on others...but I'm not gonna waste my time checking them.

Saw this on Twitter, thought it was interesting, and good for the Hawks!

This reeks of desperation....Stanford just scored again.
