B1G Tourney, Thur, 5:30pm vs Indiana, ESPN2. Winner plays #2 Seed Wisconsin Friday, 5:30pm on BTN

I really don't think the RPI is all that important for the BTT. Just a win or two and we dance. Doesn't really matter who we play just as long as we win.

We all know many teams can play the "what if" game this year, but we're Iowa fans, so...

If Iowa hadn't been cheated @ Minnesota and hadn't failed to close it out @ Nebraska--just those two games--Iowa is 20-11 and 12-6 right now, tied for second in the Big Ten, and an NCAA lock. That's how close this team is. Given how the Hawkeyes are playing now, I have to believe things will be different in the Big Ten Tourney this year and that this team will force its way into the NCAA tournament. And then, well, who knows? But I'd like to find out.

BTW: If you think every team the committee chooses "earns" its way into the field every year, you haven't been paying attention.

its going to be interesting. We barely beat IU in OT at home not too long ago. Win that, and it will be a tough game vs a rested Wisky team.

i keep hearing iowa needs to win at least twice in the BTT to be dancing.

I am thankful that:
* we won't be facing MSU
* Teddy V won't be officiating

Our first 2 opponents (which many think we need to go 2-0 against) are 2 teams we just beat and will be gunning for revenge. Not ideal, but at least we are playing with a ton of confidence.

2-0, were a lock. Too many good wins in a row. Probably not even 1st four.

1-1, it all depends on other bubble teams and how many bids are stolen.

0-1. See ya'll in Carver at the NIT.

We've done enough to guarantee postseason play. Need to get to Saturday at least to ensure we're playing in the dance.

I kinda like that we will be playing on a neutral court.

Hopefully Maryland fans will be there in force and will be rooting for the underdog, Iowa.

Reading some pro Hoosier articles that claim this is a relatively easy path to get back into the NCAA discussion, and they lost to Iowa during their "bad stretch".

They hung 96 on Ohio State, but 1) Ohio State isn't exactly known for their defense, and speaking of defense, Ohio State scored 92 on Indiana. 2) That gives us some good tape especially since they are now magically "good again".

the game vs IU will be high scoring

the winner, playing Wisky, will be like the players are playing in quick sand

the Hawkeyes (18-13 overall, 10-8 Big Ten) head to next week’s Big Ten Tournament firmly entrenched in Big Dance bubble discussion. If they get in, it’d be their fourth trip in a row, something that hasn’t happened since making it five consecutive times from 1985-89

I'm a lot more confident that we beat Nebraska than Indiana so I lean towards an easier opponent rather than another top 50 win. We needed overtime to beat Indiana at home just a couple of weeks ago, albeit with a terrible shooting performance that night. Indiana has the talent to beat us if they decide to play well. Much less likely for Nebraska to make that happen.
I can't forget that Indiana is a leader in turnovers. If they're cold and we value the ball and not turn it over ourselves, we should be in good shape if we're scoring. We also have multiple scoring weapons.

We need to shadow Blackmon and get Bryant in foul trouble again. Hartmann is back? He could be an x-factor.

As good as Blackmon is on offense, he's just as bad on defense. I feel pretty confident against Indiana. We did not play exceptionally well last meeting, and got off to a terrible start too. Can't imagine Hartman will be ready to contribute much after not playing all year.

How about just removing all doubt and finish 22-13? KInda wonder what seed they could get winning the BTT. Anyone have a guess?

My guess would be #7, just like after our BTT run in '01, and just like the past 2 seasons (only I'd be feeling a heck of a lot better about our Sweet 16 chances).

I trust our coaching staff over IU's, as well.

I just hope we don't lay our traditional first round exit egg.

I remember the announcer (Dakich?) ragging on Indiana for not getting Thomas the ball in the post. He was absolutely correct, because we could not guard him down low. I don't believe they make that same mistake against us this time.

Hopefully our 3-point shooting continues on its recent pace.

We need another of our "unusual suspects" to step up and have a big game. Who will it be? Pemsl? Moss? Ellingson? Uhl? Kreiner? Williams? (Usual suspects are JBo, Jok, Baer and Cook)

I sure like it when Williams makes s decision to take it aggressively to the hole. That boy can throw it down.

That isn't really what I meant. The point was that we could play teams like Rutgers, Nebraska, and Penn State in the BTT, but winning those does little to nothing for our tournament chances. At some point in the BTT we're going to have to play a higher tier Big Ten team and beat them if we want to make the tournament. It may be preferable to play Nebraska over Indiana, but Indiana looks like a better win regardless of RPI, and those are the games we need
I see what your saying. I think however, if we win Thursday, and Friday and are in the semi's Saturday we'll be in regardless. We're ascending fast right now, and many of the other teams around the bubble are falling. Six straight wins, several on the road against ranked teams on the road, in this years week bubble will get us in this year. It would be great to win the BIG tourney and remove any doubt. We CAN win the whole thing, if we keep playing like we have the last two weeks. We've have beaten all three of the top teams in the BIG, and are the hottest team in the league right now. The question is, can we keep it going?

For those that know this stuff. What does Iowa's RPI go to with wins against Indiana and then Wisconsin? If you can figure that then I'd think you'd have your answer. If it moves them to low 60's, high to mid 50's then I'd say Iowa is in for sure.

Looking at that screenshot . . . there's way too much red in our conference.

Iowa opens as a 50:1 to win the BTT.

Who's making a bet Iowa wins the BTT?

50/1 seems way too high, especially considering we've already beat the three top teams in the conference.

Approximately 65 following the game. Losing to Wisconsin puts us back to about 72. Beating Wisconsin gets us to about 60, where we would stay with a loss to Maryland.

You weren't cheated at Minnesota you flat-out lost the game. I've never seen a single fanbase whine about a single call like this ever. We're talking about one call over 40 minutes of basketball. We could play this game all day long like how Jok should have fouled out 10 times before the game even reached that point. I wish you guys could see how pathetic you look still whining about one bad call.

Crawl back in your hole Gopher.

Iowa WAS jobbed. But the funny thing is, after the season the Goofers are having, you're stuck with Pitino. lol

Someone sure is insecure.

LOL - they're in the middle of their TL phase... I remember when we were crowing about hiring the NATIONAL Coach of the Year away from a perennial tournament team.
