After the games so far this week the B1G looks very solid but looks like it could be a wide open division that could see all its teams with at least a couple conference losses.

Northwestern looked very impressive in their win against a talented Stanford team. Illinois looked as if they could pull off a few upsets this year. Minnesota looked tough against the #2 team in the country. Indiana looks like they have a solid offense. Wisconsin and Nebraska still look good but have a few more chinks in their armor.

It's still very early in the season but Iowa has a legit shot with its schedule to win the West. The West is wide open this year IMHO. A lot of teams improved this year while Wisconsin and Nebraska seem to have at the very least stayed the same.

I almost posted same thing yesterday....after many said B1G West is worst power 5 division in country and East far superior, after only 1 week different picture emerging.

PSU stank, MSU underperformed (find out about them next week), Michigan lost, Rutgers/Purdue bottom 2 or 2 of bottom 3, Maryland so so......West may beat East overall.

The East still has Ohio State, which nobody in the West can even come close to beating without OSU just completely underplaying.

Illinois played one of the wost football teams that I have ever seen. You can't take anything away from that game.

Wisconsin is a mess without Gordon. Their OL sucks, they have no receivers, and their QB is a headcase. Their kicking game sucked. Their D will keep them in games, but they're about an 8-4 team that would struggle to make a bowl game if they actually had to play anybody. Paul Chryst is a terrible HC.

Nebraska is a joke. Armstrong sucks, they have no decent WRs, and their defensive "talent' is overrated as hell. Kicking game is also questionable. New coach is a joke.

Minnesota is the same team that they've had for the last 3 years. Solid D but entirely too one dimensional on offense. Leidner would have trouble starting for a good 4A high school team in this state. Great coaching staff, though.

Stanford has been the most overrated team in the country the last 2 years. Their offense is a joke. Jury is still very much out on Northwestern.

Purdue looks pretty mediocre right now.

If I had to power rank these teams based on Week 1, Iowa is the hands down best looking team of the bunch. It's not close.

There's not a team in the division that would meet any reasonable person's standard of "good", outside of maybe Iowa. Get back to me after next Saturday.

BTW, to the first 2 idiots in this thread, Indiana is in the East and Purdue is in the West. When you don't even know which side some of the teams are in, it makes you look kind of...dumb.

I actually don't think Wisconsin is all that bad. They played Alabama. I know we played well against ISU, but don't you think Wisconsin would do the same? How do you think we would play against Alabama the first game of the year?

As to Nebraska, Tommy Armstrong looked competent and Westerkamp would possibly be our #1 WR. Not to mention Pierson El didn't play yesterday and he is easily the most athletic guy between Iowa and Nebraska.

Minnesota did well. Could we hold Boykin an Co to 24 points?

Northwestern easily had the most impressive win.

The west is wide open.

Did you watch Wisconsin? Their line sucks (3 new starters, zero depth), their backs are pedestrian, and they haven't had a solid passing game in years. Alabama also looked to be a step down from where they were last year. Paul Chryst has also looked to be a shitty coach.

I admitted that Minnesota has a nice defense. Their offense looks like a 1A high school team, and they don't have Cobb to be the workhorse anymore.

Nebrasaka...just stop. Mike Riley was a horrible hire. They don't have the personnel to run the offense that he wants to, and their defensive staff is a joke. Armstrong is like a career 55% passer. BYU had like their entire first string suspended and was using a true freshman for a lot of the game, including the end. And Pierson-El is out for 8 weeks and might have to redshirt.

Stanford was 7-5 last year and just put up 6 points against a team that was 5-7 each of the last two years. If that's your definition of "impressive", then good for you. You probably think my 5 inch dick is impressive, too.

TCU
Alabama
BYU
Illinois State

One of these isn't like the others. Don't talk to me about your dick.

OK, in your estimation, Wisconsin is a mess, Minnesota far too one dimensional, NW played the country's most overrated team, Purdue looks mediocre (um, no, they don't look mediocre today). Would be nice if you were right but little chance you are.

So you don't actually watch football, you just look at the boxscore and use the names of the opponent to form your opinion.

Got it.

I get it, you have a disability. I'm sorry I didn't notice sooner.

I will try to accommodate you anyway I can... You're right billy!

I watched all the games and comparing Ill. St. to any of the others is a joke! We played an FCS team where our lines out-weighed theirs by 30 lbs. each. They may have been good last year but they are less than mediocre now! They did have a good QB, but he did not have time to scratch his ass.

Go back to making an ass of yourself on the OT board. You're way out of your depth here, boy.

Actually it appears you're on the tail end here as no one agrees with you.

With as many posters who visits this board, how is this possible?

When do you get your applesauce and does the administrator know you have Internet access?

I can see you like to look at scores too and don't actually watch games. Purdue has had stupid penalties, turnovers, and assorted other mistakes. Their QB will literally force the ball into any type of coverage. They are not good.

Edit: And as I type this, they fall behind a C-USA team in the 4th Q. Yep, damn impressive.

How many ranked teams will the West have when the next poll comes out, you football geniuses?

LOL, you give your evaluation on the other teams in the B1G West and you think you know football? Seriously, your evaluations of the other teams in the West are the biggest laugh of the day here.. What will you say about Iowa if they beat Iowa this year?

Are you aware Marshall won 13 games last year?

swag the dude you are talking about is clueless and all you need to know about his football knowledge is how he evaluated the other teams in the B1G West after yesterday's games.

Are you aware this isn't last year, dipshit? Think they'll win 13 again?

I'll ask again, how many West teams will be ranked in the next poll? How many do you think will be in the final poll?

Dumbass.

LOL, another clueless poster resorting to his name calling. You are a piece of work.

I figured out its Da Coach. It's ok he will leave soon, it's Sunday. That means MOVIE NIGHT at the home!!!!

Free Willy

Hint: Its about a big fish

How many combined poll votes do you think all 7 of the West teams will have in the next poll?

For some reason you seem to be ducking the question.

My God man, stop being such a stupid poster. There may be none in the polls this next week after one game but I will promise you none of these teams will be as bad as you say.

Hey chump, answer my earlier question:

What will you say about any of these teams or about Iowa if either Wisconsin, NW, Nebraska, or Purdue beats us or finish ahead of us in the West standings this year?

I'll say that Iowa was a mediocre team, just like all of the others. And even if Iowa beats them all, we'll still probably be mediocre.

Now answer my other question: How many of these awesome teams are going to be ranked at the end of the season?

I don't have a crystal ball dork. Do you? How about I let you know at the end of the season.

Now go back to making other senseless commentaries.

The East was 5-2 (assuming an OSU win), while the West was 3-4.

Idiot.

I don't think anybody is saying the B1G West is going to have a ton of teams in the the top 25 this year. The whole point of this post was to state there seems to be a lot of teams in the West that will all be playing on a similar level making the West wide open this year. I truly believe the West will beat up on one another this year.

So you don't actually watch football, you just look at the boxscore and use the names of the opponent to form your opinion.

Got it.

You only have 5?

I guess that's why you're suggesting that Illinois St is on par with Alabama, TCU and BYU. You have little man syndrome, and I'm not talking about your height.

ISU is the little guy of the school's mentioned and because you empathize with them, you run to their defense.

So your put down must now elevate you to a"big man". Oh, and I am not talking about your height.

Its always amusing to see posters (always a few long-time members included) attempting to hold a logical discussion with daCoach. Its not that difficult to spot him either even though he has been here (and banned) more than a hundred times.

His posting fingerprint is unmistakable and almost as obvious as Kilroy. If you are responding to a poster with a low post count who registered within the past 7 days and is immediately belligerent, chances are pretty good you are swimming with daCoach. His reply usually includes personal insults such as "retard" (his favorite), "dipshit", or something similar.

First games have a way of making teams look better, or worse, than they actually are. We'll know a lot more in a few more weeks.

This bears repeating. The more people respond to this sociopath, the more he'll clutter the board with obnoxious crap. He's easy to identify, as nu2u describes above. Just put him on your ignore list and move on.

the nw win was a good one.
minny playing tcu tough was the second best performance of week 1.
Hawks knocking off a good FCS squad is fine, but in no way impressive.
wisky was dominated. Sure it was the 'bama, but the badgers looked to be down on both sides of the ball.
nebby was completely outplayed in the first half. Should have been down more at halftime. They're OK, but nothing special.
illanoy played nobody.
purdont was owned in the 4th qtr by marshall.

Overall, meh.
No team looks like a top 20 candidate.
minny, nebby, wisky the top 3, flip a coin.
nw looks like #4. I'll need to see them do more before thinking they might be in the mix for the title.
Hawks #4-5.
illanoy, still a mess.
purdont, still bad.

tosu is far and away the class of the conference.
msu was unimpressive, but remain the clear #2.
Given those top 2, the B1G east is significantly the better.

Yeah -- not sure how solid the west is, but based on the mediocrity of the favorites displayed in week 1, I do think the Hawks have an outside shot at the role of sacrificial lamb in the B10 championship game, and I'll take that in a second.
