Anyone that has done ‘brai knows the world essentially disappears for a week - so what’s the word HORTers?

For those of you interested. The ride was hilly. It was hot but not unbearable. Mr. Porkchop remains top tier. Vodka lemonade slushies are still #1. Southern Iowa actually wasn’t nearly as trashy and Trumpy as expected. Ottumwa still sucks though.

same old shit

I remember knowing a lot of people that would go on RAGBRAI, this year I don't think I heard anything about it, didn't even realize it was last week. Do they still get a good amount of people that go?

Numbers were way down this year for sure. It had the most climb on record so I think that scared a lot of people off. That and Southern Ioway is always the least desirable route.

As your first executive act, I respectfully request that you reinstate H4aD from his ban. My right to post rickygervaislaugh.gif shall not be infringed!
No way! That act singlehandedly raised the collective IQ of this board at least 10 points. Losing Rico would add another 10.

You missed a great deal.

I managed to increase the level of visceral hatred for me.

It's a cross I bear.

Did you at least stop by The Keg bar in Ottumwa to get that authentic meth experience?

With that many people it can get pretty methy, for sure.
in 1984 they came thru there, I was working at fast food restaurant. it was more like 10K people back then I don't think I saw one beer can. well, maybe one or two. and that could have been from us fast food workers!!! they didn't drink that much back then.

true story a good friend of mine in high school, his dad was shot there. it was a fight over a woman.

"He went to a southside Ottumwa tavern where he approached a woman he thought he knew. The woman was Harville’s fiancee.

Harville and Wilkins got into a fight in which Wilkins shot Harville. Wilkins dropped the gun and waited for police to arrive.

Vilsack said that he expects Wilkins to remain free of any disciplinary reports and to participate in programming that would be appropriate before the parole board would consider him for work-release or parole."

We should bring an FSU group to RAGBRAI 2025. However, that would mean many hours of riding to prepare unless we just picked a spot to drink somewhere along the route

This is a perfectly acceptable and widely used method of doing RAGBRAI.
Make sure you schedule appointment to get tested for venereal diseases after your little bicycle trip. We don’t want you getting sick.

We ended up somewhere on the other side of the river. Brother's Pub or something? It wasn't too methy. Was just glad the bikes weren't stolen when we came out!
probably pallister brothers? that turns out to be the big brother of somebody I hung out with in H.S.

it's pretty good little pub kinda small-ish

have had many bikes stolen in ottumwa for sure!!!

70 miles 😮

“By the time RAGBRAI starts, you need to have ridden at least a 70 mile ride, and have ridden more than 100 miles in a week, preferably more like 150.”

The Tues-Fri stretch looked like this. It was an ass kicker even if you took it easy.

Tues: 82 miles / 4500ft+ of climb.
Wed: 77 miles / 3000ft+ of climb
Thurs: 64 miles / 2500ft+ of climb
Fri: 85 miles / 3200ft+ of climb

As stated above though, you'll be in plenty of company just hanging at the bar all day and skipping the miles. A lot of people train in 12 ounce curls only.
