Rico is the village idiot. We’ve still got BDE, Rico, and this new firebrand Arbor to keep us intrigued!
Who else would we laugh at?
At least I didn't hear of any deaths this year on RAGBRAI.

As stated above though, you'll be in plenty of company just hanging at the bar all day and skipping the miles. A lot of people train in 12 ounce curls only.
Numbers were way down this year for sure. It had the most climb on record so I think that scared a lot of people off. That and Southern Ioway is always the least desirable route.
I don't get home that often but in 2023 I went there and my brother was telling me about this place so he took me there and it turns out we knew the dude who owns it. It was really nice place but almost too nice for Ottumwa.Yep, that was it.
Is southern Iowa really that much more hilly than the middle and upper parts of the state?
What's your average pace, around 15mph?
DA JOKE IS ON DA LIBTAHDS BECAUSE DA HITMAN HATES RAGBRAI AND INTERSTATE BATHHOUSES BECAUSE MOM USED TO HANG OUT IN THEM AND SHE WOULD GUZZLE SEMEN AND SOY WHILE DA HITMAN WAS AT HOME HAVING TO RAISE HIMSELF AND HIS SIBLINGS TO BECOME DA PATRIOT ALPHA DAWGS THEY ARE TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DA HITMAN'S MOM IS A WHORE, BUT SHE ISN'T A MARXIST, WHICH IS WAY WORSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DA REASON DA HITMAN LOVES ICE COLD CANS OF SPRITE IS BECAUSE LITTLE HITMAN WOULD BE HOME ALONE AND THAT'S ALL HE HAD FOR DINNER WHILE MOM WAS OUT WORKING AND HIS DAD WALKED OUT ON DA FAMILY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DADDY WOULD HAVE STAYED IF THERE WAS A BRIDGE TO CASSVILLE, BUT HE WENT TO DUBUQUE AND NEVER CAME BACK TO SOUTHERN CLAYTON COUNTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MOM SAID DA RADICAL MARXISTS LIKE DA BERNIE AND DA SQUAD AND DA KAMALALALA AND DA CHE GUEVARA BRAINWASHED DAD AND HE RAN OFF TO DA CANADA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!My mom doesn’t participate in Marxist activities.
The Tues-Fri stretch looked like this. It was an ass kicker even if you took it easy.
Tues: 82 miles / 4500ft+ of climb.
Wed: 77 miles / 3000ft+ of climb
Thurs: 64 miles / 2500ft+ of climb
Fri: 85 miles / 3200ft+ of climb
As stated above though, you'll be in plenty of company just hanging at the bar all day and skipping the miles. A lot of people train in 12 ounce curls only.
I am fine with making fun of ottumwa, it is the armpit of Iowa, but does the rest of the southern part of the state deserve this? I am thinking about Atlantic or something, there are some decent towns. Not really hillier, this particular route just happened to find all of them. The reason people don’t like the southern route isn’t so much the hills - it’s the towns. You know what they say about Missouri and the bottom two rows of Ioway counties.
Average pace is completely dictated by when you get out. You may want to fly but if you didn’t get on the road by 6am - you’re in for a frustrating ride dodging bike traffic all day. It’s best to just go with the flow (which yes tends to be between 13-15mph).
This guy riding a “hog” and drinking slurp pies is exactly how we all saw the week going down.Anyone that has done ‘brai knows the world essentially disappears for a week - so what’s the word HORTers?
For those of you interested. The ride was hilly. It was hot but not unbearable. Mr. Porkchop remains top tier. Vodka lemonade slushies are still #1. Southern Iowa actually wasn’t nearly as trashy and Trumpy as expected. Ottumwa still sucks though.

Lets keep the new threads to a Minny and take this to the LBGQT+ thread
Thanks Comrade
The RAGBRAI hills were tough this year. I saw more e-bikes than normal, which was probably a result of the hilly route. The Hairball concert in Knoxville rocked.😜 At least the final day from Mt. Pleasant to Burlington wasn’t hilly. Met lots of nice people from all around the state and country.Anyone that has done ‘brai knows the world essentially disappears for a week - so what’s the word HORTers?

There weren’t nearly as many riders this year as last year, but last year was the 50th anniversary. Also last years’ route was less hilly and went through Des Moines, which certainly played a part in the larger crowd.I remember knowing a lot of people that would go on RAGBRAI, this year I don't think I heard anything about it, didn't even realize it was last week. Do they still get a good amount of people that go?
Yes…southern Iowa is definitely much hillier than the northern/central parts of the state. Is southern Iowa really that much more hilly than the middle and upper parts of the state?

70 miles 😮
“By the time RAGBRAI starts, you need to have ridden at least a 70 mile ride, and have ridden more than 100 miles in a week, preferably more like 150.”
You Still Have Time to Get in Shape for RAGBRAI
Don't look now, but it is June already and RAGBRAI is next month! Yikes! I hope you are well are your way to getting in shape for this epic tour across Iowa. However, if you have just started riding or haven't done as much as you hoped or planned to by this point, don't fear.ragbrai.com
Not me. Seriously, I've winged it every year.
There’s a guy on our team that only rides RAGBRAI. All year. That’s it. It’s impressive.
I’m typically 2-3k miles in by late July for the year so don’t even think about “training” for it.
Rode on Wednesday only. I thought it was easy enough, but the hard part is doing it everyday for a week. I also have 2000+ miles in this year, so one day shouldn't seem bad. Count me in as one who doesn't have a lot of interest in the southern route. I'll be back in for the whole route next year. Northern Iowa?
the rolling hills. there was a movie with emelio estevez...."wisdom" he talks about itYes…southern Iowa is definitely much hillier than the northern/central parts of the state.
