My father in law invited me to go with his friends do Baconfest this year. I have never been. Is it fun? Just a big excuse to drink beer?

The guy who promotes this is a Clown fan and he dresses like a Clown at their games. I ain't going.

My 11 year old loves bacon. Took him there this past year and when we left he said "If this is as good as it gets I don't ever want to come back". From an adult perspective it was over priced and not all that.

I think it's one of those events where you "try it out" one time and then you will most likely come to the conclusion "okay, I don't need to do that again." ...

The event gets a lot of attention ... It think it's a fun event for Des Moines ... Personally, I've been once before ... Had a decent time ... but it didn't "wow" me enough to bring me back ... I would check it out if you haven't done so before ...

I recommend The Bacon Explosion at the Local Blue Frog 22 on Hubbard Street. It is delicious, make sure your will is updated before ordering.

THE BACON EXPLOSION! Savor this crazy amazing burger that contains Italian sausage, bacon bits, cheese and BBQ sauce wrapped in dry rubbed bacon lattice then slow smoked over cherry and apple wood. Cut a slice of that amazing combination, put it on our grass fed fresh beef patty (we recommend medium rare), added with a Wisconsin cheddar cheese, homemade BBQ sauce and a fried egg and your stomach will be happy!

I went with my wife(no pic) last year and it was a blast. No people under 21 allowed so it is a lot of bacon and drinking. Nice to have an event without kids (I have three).

Not sure about this year, but last year had a pro wrestling theme, mini Kiss, people dressed up in crazy costumes, and plenty of things to eat and keep busy with for about 3 or 4 hours.

I'd recommend it to anyone that likes bacon, a festive atmosphere, and doesn't mind crowds.

Pretty much this. It was a fun day of drinking with friends, but it costs a lot of money to get in the door, and then a lot more money for beers. But not something I'd spend money on every year.

The one in waterloo is pretty lame.

Just stand around all day in ridiculously long lines to get a little sample of something for about 20 vendors.

Unless you get in for free, like i did last year, it's not worth it.

Like i said, that's the one from here, anywho.

If I refused to patronize anything that had a Florida Gators supporter running it, my choices would be very limited.

That's only because it's hard for FSU grads to run anything, since no one respects the paper the degree is printed on.

No, it's because I live in the Gators territory of the state. If I lived in lower Alabama, no sign of any Gators.
