There's no other way you lose to a team that we're fairly equal to. A good coach will at least make you competitive. That's all.

Unless he failed to tell the kids to get back and hedge hard on high screens, it wasn't bad coaching. We got killed on effort. Our bigs didn't get back in transition, then we didn't commit to off ball help and got left in no man's land for seemingly endless oops. That is effort and youth, not coaching.

It's amazing how coaching fluctuates so much from game to game! I mean, just last Thursday, Fran and Co were brilliant tactiticians. They must have swallowed a bunch of stupid pills over the weekend.

isn't it amazing how that works. in general I think in game coaching gets too much credit but also too much blame. When it comes to execution & energy college players shouldn't need teen ball pregame pep talks. That was one poorly executed game last night including effort. I'm sure Fran / staff put together a game plan that they thought would work...players failed to execute it & after a while they knew they were being taken to the woodshed.

so this one is over...this team has shown it can compete. Remember we lost at NW a few years back...then ran the table I believe...not saying that will happen (obviously) but maybe this was a wakeup...its one thing to lose..but go down fighting..a number of guys didn't do that last night.

Maryland is good...that Cowen kid is one heck of a talent...as well as Huerter.
Not going to be easy...I'm sure our team will give a much better effort.

Coaching should correct those problems. Those guys should have gotten an earful or benched for not getting back. But he just stands there with his arms crossed. Never takes advantage of "teaching moments". Yes, it's on the kids too. But it's his job to correct that stuff. It's his job to motivate.

Did you want him standing on the bench with a flame thrower pointed at their @sses. Sometimes you can scream, punish, and yell all you want. IF the players are not motivated or not focused, you can get beat. There is a teachable moment from this game and I am sure Fran and company will use it to make the guys better.

It was a total lack of effort and the leadership was not there from the players. Did anyone see any player show any emotion during the game? Nope, they were riding high on the Purdue win and thought if they just showed up they would win. The tough thing about coaching is teaching players how to come back down after a BIG win. Coaches have to get them focused after W's and L's and unfortunately I think the gameplan was there, but the players did not execute it. I think this what you called a "hangover" from the PU win.

Have to flush this one and re-group for Thursdays game.

They were getting an earful. There's a lot you don't see on tv. I was 6 rows behind the bench for the Villanova game last year. Probably 3 different timeouts Fran and the assistants came unglued in the huddle. There's plenty of teaching/Ass chewing going on we don't see during the game and film study/practice between games.

its also his job to do something about those other guys...the purple guys.

he did bench the entire starting lineup at one point...yep never takes advantage of teaching moments...so you really don't know what he says do you?

you are not in the locker room before or after..are you?
you also don't go to practice ...do you?
you really don't know what the scouting report was..as was given to the players...do you?

we realize you are disappointed...so are we...but lets be honest you really don't know that Fran never takes advantage of teaching moments. unless you are at practice, on the bench, in the huddle during timeouts or in the locker room.

I think Tyler Cook pointed out after the game that Fran gave it to them...as he said "and he should have".

blow outs are going to happen. Fran's brain fart was on the recruiting trail previous 2 years and maybe this year, if he doesn't pick up some help at guard. Getting guards/wings that can create their own shot and shoot 3ball is imperative.

in game coaching is over rated. All though calling key timeouts isn't. 95% of coaching is done in practice. This makes me wonder what kind of practice coach fran is. what the hell he see's in ellingson, Uhl and CW. If I was Fran I think I would go Bobby Knight on a few players on this team. By year 7 we should have a more than capable point guard. I m sorry to say those three guys would be gone.

uhls energy was good and CW is to good an athlete yo give up on right now, ellingson bye

I thought Fran was sending a message when he went to the second unit with no starters on the floor. The effort they gave allowed us a brief spurt, but when they needed a blow we gave it right back.

Obviously, if Fran was sending a message it wasn't received.

It all has to do with the waning of a new moon. Excellent coaching one night (Purdue), and crappy coaching another (Northwestern). Great defense one night and terrible defense another. No other explanation. Now that the new moon has waned all should be fine for three and a half weeks.
