Baez to Tigers 6 years/$140M

I realize this is in the wrong board. You used to be able to delete a thread, but no longer.

Enough Cubs fans on this board to appreciate the info.
Tigers happen to be my AL team, but I'm not sure this was the best move for 'em. I just hope to see Javy beat the Sox a few times.

Baez made the same kind of baserunning mental mistakes while with the cubs. I think it is good to bench a player if they have these types of problems so they know they need to focus.

Fran should bench some players for bad defense.

That would be the whole team 😜

Harder to focus when your pockets are so full of money.

why the eff did QChawk dig up this ancient thread about a baseball signing is the real question

I disagree with this call. The helmet came off and impeded Baez from tagging him— acted as a barrier.
The helmet came of naturally and incidentally. It wasn't an intentional "block" by the runner. There is no "impedement".

He's safe.

Not saying it was intentional. I’m saying he potentially has the tag out if the helmet isn’t in the way. What’s your thought on if he pins the helmet between the player and his glove? Still safe?

You can't give a guy the put out for what might have happened. His glove was a long way from the runner...even without the helmet there. Had the helmet been used intentionally by the runner...it's a different story.

Impedement in base running is pretty clear...the runner has a duty to avoid a batted ball and/or a fielder making a play on it. In that case a "potential" can be awarded. But that's clearly defined.

As for your second hypothetical...I don't know if it's ever happened. The determining factor would probably be was the player "wearing" the equipment at the time...then it's considered part of his body. If it's flying through the air randomly...probably safe again.

Then again...I don't understand some of the silly "traditions" and "unwritten rules" that baseball clings to so...

One of the strangest plays I saw over the weekend was Cubs runner at 1st base. He attempted to steal 2nd,but it was ball 4 on the batter. He should have been able to take his base at 2nd,but he had no idea that it was ball 4. He slides into 2nd,the defender applied the tag,but the runner slid off momentarily with the tag still applied and was originally called safe, but on review was called out for coming off the base. Crazy.

really shows you that the cubs struck lightning in 2015-2017. The only player that came out of that group that didn't shit the bed completely was Rizzo, and he had a massive drop off.

Might be one more that does pretty well..
Just sayin.

I have to give it up to Happ tbh, holy shit though Schwarbers numbers are insane, he has netted around a .200 BA and still has an ops in the .800s. Those mashing numbers will drop off as he ages, and his fielding is well...atrocious, and his career highest WAR season is a 3.5, so nothing insane there.
