Bakari Evelyn commits!

Glad to see it-I think this improves our team but let's temper our expectations a little bit.

There will be some here that thinks this "puts us over the top" which I don't feel is the case but it certainly helps our overall rotation.

His highlight video shows capabilities driving and handling the ball that we haven’t had in several years. He has shown to be a good shooter when healthy. Last year he wasn’t healthy and his numbers dropped. His skill set is much needed.
Agree with the assessment. Evelyn isn’t a world-beater, but he’s another step in the right direction for skills we’ve been lacking. The strength of this team will be JW and upfront. But a guy like Bakari could help facilitate that strength.

If nothing else, he is at least coming in to support probably the biggest need the team has. Given his career to this point it appears to be a rather large question mark as to what he will be able to do against B1G competition.

Overall a needed move. Hope it pays dividends.

Got a link to the highlight video?

Below are highlights of Evelyn’s 2017 Soph year before his injury year in 2018. I repeat, Evelyn isn’t a world-beater,but he’s another step in the right direction for skills we’ve been lacking. Stock up on Bacardi brand alcohol and Everclear alcohol for the drinking games, lol.

From the article. Did I miss something?

With the uncertainty of Jordan Bohannon for next season, Evelyn will be able to come right away and provide a large boost.

Watching the highlight video is interesting. You only see the best in highlights, but my personal opinion is that he would help Iowa even if Bohannon wasn't hurt. If Evelyn is healthy, I would be surprised if he doesn't play a lot.

His passing on the pick and roll in the video is really good. So many dump offs to his big.

The last two plays, starting around 2:27 on the video, highlight what I mean when I say he can do things that we haven’t had a player capable of doing in several years.

Bohannon is having hip surgery and apparently it's doubtful he'll be ready to go next season.

Bakari and Toussiant may be very fun to watch together. The fight between him and CJ is going to be an interesting one for the top spot. I am not sure I remember a year with so many question marks. This is going to look like a completely different team than last year. Toussiant and Bakari seem to be what the fan base has been waiting for. Everybody is hoping to see Pemsl come back and play freely without pain. Nunge seems to be a different player in a different body with the same smooth shot. CJ Fredrick is getting nothing but praise for his game and without Bakari it seemed he would be a shoe in for the starting spot. If Fran can find the right rotation and combination of players on the court, I fully think this team could be better than last year. I expect to see a slow start. Maybe we lose to someone we shouldn't. Maybe games are closer than they should be. By January, I think we will be competitive with any team in the Big Ten.

CJ will start with Connor at the one. The new three point like plays right into CJ favor as dude can stroke from deep. He’s an elite passer off the bounce that Isaiah wasn’t. With so many scorers and shooters Connor is the key. He is the only true QB on the roster. Joe T will take time and Bakari will be the perfect rotation guard with experience. Fran should be commended for a great get and fitting the pieces to the puzzle. A starting five of Connor CJ Joe Jack Luka ..... Cordell RK Pat Bakari Joe T Till 11 players that can contribute.... hats off the Fran for being able to lose players and have a full roster!

Watched him play at Nebraska. Talented athlete. Nice kid. Reminds me a little bit of Maishe Dailey in stature and moves. Saw the handwriting on the wall at Red Land so left and dropped down a level. Haven't seen any good clips at Valpo. Hope he has success at Iowa.

I don't disagree that he could see the floor quite a bit. I just think that there's a lot of uncertainty given his injury issues and overall body of work to date.

Will be a solid backup to Conner CJ Weez...

If he proves, he can get to the rac of the dribble and score or create offense for others & play solid D they may wind up being back ups for him.. Connor we know needs much improvement in those areas, CJ we don’t know, JW is kind of a jack of a trades right now and working on his masters but we know he can score & should be very good.

Reading the posts, it seems no one needs their expectations "tempered".

From his video (yes, a highlight video) is looks like he has the tools to help the Hawks - i.e. no glaring weaknesses. I am very glad to have him on board. He looks like a good Moss replacement.

Obviously we don't know what level of play or skill Bakari brings with certainty.........at minimum it would "appear" that he provides depth at both the PG and the 2G. That by itself is very important in this instance.

Prior to Bakari committing the primary 2G would appear to be CJ......with Connor being the guy that would swing between the P & the 2. Again, prior to Bakari, it would appear that Connor brings some experience and understanding of the system that is above and beyond what any other guard brings.....so, he would probably start at the point or at least one of the two spots? My wild guess is that if Connor isn't starting he either didn't have a great summer of prep or the other players are just playing that much better in the preseason practices. I hope Joe T is just that good, but I don't want to count on a freshman PG with what I think is a really strong front line.

My wild guess is that we see experience starting in the back court (Connor/Bakari) that would allow the guys that have never played D1 basketball a chance to adjust....but that is just a wild guess. I still see all four playing a lot of minutes.....if they aren't it could be a tough season.

As has been mentioned previously, Joe W could play some 2 in some situations.....and specifically if Patrick is ready to contribute (which I think he will be).
