Does anyone know when he is set to visit? I heard early June. But nothing since...

We need this guy. Badly.... Hopefully Fran can find another guard or swing player. We could use 2 or 3 more!

Any news on other recruits would be much appreciated as well.

I think tomorrow, but could be wrong.

Not getting too excited about this potential addition. If he is anything more than a one year player that provides 10 - 15 minutes per game of solid play off the bench that would be a bonus. Helps to not need to play other players out of position or give them too many minutes. If Jordan does play this year, then I don't expect Bakari to get much playing time.

Its really a no lose situation since he is a grad transfer and we have 2 open rides right now.

If IA lands him then we should have a drinking game for IA BB games, each time he make a shot, an assist, or a rebound, takes a shot. Double shots for steals and jams!! Welcome to the #1 party school Bacardi Everclear!!!

Hope his visit this weekend goes well. Joe T. arrives on campus tomorrow, so hopefully they hit it off.

For this to be worth it, both to Iowa and to Evelyn, he'll need to be a significant contributor next year. Not a bench guy who plays 10-15 minutes, but a starter-quality player who will give us a solid 25. From what I've seen so far, he seems to be about on par with Moss - a little bit better handles and driving ability, not as great of an outside shot. If he can play with some consistency, I'll consider that a net gain.

Between losing Moss and Dailey, that's about 35 guard minutes. If Bohannon is out, that's another 30 minutes. We're looking at needing to replace potentially 65 minutes at guard. Wieskamp already was playing 27 a game; he can take maybe another 5. Connor's minutes will probably go up another 5. That still leaves 55 available minutes. CJF and Toussaint have a ton of potential, but they're still freshmen, and they'll need time to adjust. Give 15 to Joe T. and 15 to CJF, and that still leaves 25 minutes for Evelyn.

Provided Bohannon is out for the season, and assuming Evelyn commits, my stab at a starting lineup would be:

PG - Connor (Joe T.)
SG - Evelyn (CJF)
SF - Wieskamp (Patrick)
PF - Pemsl (Nunge)
C - Garza (Kriener)

I just realized: if Bohannon redshirts, that leaves only four returning scholarship players from the 18-19 season: Garza, Wieskamp, Kriener and Connor. Pemsl only played two games, so I'm not counting him, or Riley Till, since he wasn't on scholarship last season.

Why does he need to be a starter to make this worth it for Iowa? That is probably what Evelyn is looking for and that would mean he would be a huge help for next year, but given the shortage of guards (especially if JBo is out), 10-15 min of quality play would still be very valuable for Iowa. The alternative for those minutes would be either a walk on, or some shifting of the rotation that could weaken the team at another position. If Evelyn comes to Iowa and it turns out that both CJF and JoeT are already better, that could be great news for Iowa's future.

I said starter-quality, not starter. I'm talking about minutes and value to the team.

Assuming Bohannon is gone, that means we've lost a total of 23 ppg of scoring at the guard position.

If Evelyn is a Moss-level replacement player, that's about 10 ppg and 25 min of play. That takes a lot of pressure off our incoming guys and provides a lot of value to the team. If he's a Maishe Dailey-level player, that's 12 minutes and 2.5 ppg.

While depth is crucial, I don't think having Maishe Daily back would make a gigantic difference in the W/L column for this year's team. We would be better off giving Joe T. and CJ Fredrick as much run as they can handle in order to develop them for the 20-21 season.

Connor was playing almost 20 minutes a game.
We need more than one. One won’t make much of a difference but will help a little. Half of our squad are not P5 scholarship quality b-ball players. Has been that way for 10+ years.
Assuming you are talking about the scholarship players, which half is that?

If Bakari plays like he did pre-injury, he'll get his minutes. Hope he earns a ton of them!

Let's hope he doesnt get into a pickup game vs CJ Fredrick.

CJ already scared away one player.....no need for him to do that to one that isnt even on the team yet!!!

I hope the Moss speculation doesn’t overshadow this young man’s visit this weekend.

Evelyn is a very welcome addition to the Hawkeye family should he be so inclined.

Here is Ol’ Fuchsy to tell everyone once again Iowa has half a team of non-P5 players but they somehow make the tournament more then they don’t in the last 6 years.

Man, Fran must be the best coach in the nation then!

It seems like most have moved past the point of Bakari getting some sort of wavier so he can play in 19/20. Why is that? What are the circumstances that would get him a wavier?

hes a grad transfer therefore he can play right away.

Still crickets...poster is a piece of work...
No reason to call out individuals. It's not the kids fault they were offered a scholarship to play b-ball at Iowa. But, any sane person can just look at our rosters over the past 10-20 years and understand the primary reason behind the futility of this program.

Still no answer.

What in the world are you talking about.

I'll give you Maishe Dailey, he's a mid-major player as evidenced by his transfer to akron. Hell, I'll give you Connor too just for the sake of argument. Outside of those two, your argument pisses away. We can all agree J-Bo, Moss, Weezy, Cook, and Garza would be contributors on any P-5 team. Moss might be the worst of that group and he's possibly going to KANSAS! Baer was B10 sixth man of the year. Kriener probably isn't a starter, but I would contend half the P5 schools in the country would welcome him on their team. He sure as hell gave us valuable minutes.

Those guys aren't as talented as Michigan State or Duke starters, but to say they don't have P5 talent is imbecilic and downright disrespectful.

One sweet 16 in the past 20 years...i can barely handle all that talent!

One sweet 16 in the past 20 years...i can barely handle all that talent!

So is your argument that we don't have power 5 talent or we don't have sweet 16 talent? Because that's a drastically different argument and you know it.

Theres 65 P5 basketball teams in the country. Last year, only 31 of those teams made it to the ncaa tournament, and only 23 made it to the round of 32. So to break it down for you:

In 2019, only 35% of P5 teams made the round of 32.
In 2016, only 26% of P5 teams.
In 2015, only 32% of P5 teams.

So in 3 of the last 5 years, we performed in the top third of all P5 schools. Thats not too bad.

Before you get hot and bothered, I definitely agree that if we want to make a sweet 16 or elite eight, we need a talent upgrade. Our players surely aren't final four material. But if you're going to sit around and say our players aren't power 5 material, I will defend those guys every day of the week.

It all averages out to mediocrity for Fran.

3 NCAA wins in nine seasons with an average seed of 9.

Average conference finish of 7th.

Could it be and has it been worse? Sure. Lots.

Is there really anything to crow about? Nope.

As a whole, it’s an unremarkable body of work. In view of what he has to work with at Iowa, it’s a respectable body of work. One upside: he’s not going to get hired away.
