Bakari Evelyn

The stats that the haters like to quote do not take into account the dumpster fire that was Iowa when McC came in. That is their primary failing. Even schools with much better recruiting bases in their states/cities struggle at times. McC has usually been able to put a competitive team on the floor once he got a team of his players.

The stats that the haters like to quote...

When someone uses the term “haters” you know you’re dealing with a mental and emotional midget unable to deal with the reality of differing opinions.

These people can be safely ignored.

I hear Evelyn dominated in scrimmage yesterday.

He loves the school and team. Expect him to pull the trigger during the week.

Is this like how Ellingson used to be the first pick in pick up games with the team?

Hopefully Evelyn can return to his pre-injury form. If so, I think he will be a valuable addition to the team.

How did you come up with that avg?
What’s Fran’s average with his own recruits?

His average conference finish is 6.3. If you took out his first year, its 5.8.

Averages like this are really bunk science though. Fran's first year and 2017 stinkers weigh down the average by a full point. A lot of coaches have seasons like Fran's 2017. Matt Painter went 15-17 in his 9th season. John Beilein went 16-16 in his 8th. Thad Matta went 17-15 in his final season. These are outlier years that might be chalked up to bad luck more than anything, but they really hurt average W/L and conference finish.

Regardless, a 5th-6th place conference finish isn't stupendous but its by no means bad, especially since we play in a 14-team league. It means we're statistically above average.

The Evelyn family was expecting to make the announcement on Tuesday. They are not too happy about the news (Pat Harty) being broken today.

If you went by Fran’s last six years, his average would be 4.67. Or by Raptor’s rounding skills 8th.

Without doing the math, I’d be willing to bet that Iowa Football has a very similar conference finish avg in this same time frame. That’s even playing a majority of these years in a weaker division.

Yet the narratives between KF and FM couldn’t be much different.

You should respond to his tweet with this info.

It's been a couple of weeks since a good Twitter meltdown for Harty.

I don't follow Twitter, but if the family planned an announcement, Harty should have kept his mouth shut. Hopefully, this doesn't change anything for Evelyn.

Says an obvious hater. You my hateful black hearted friend obviously have the problem of dealing with people of differing opinions. That makes you either a hypocrite or stupid. I'm thinking some combination of both. You call those with differing opinions from yours as ''haters'' who are ''mental and emotional midgets''.Why do you call them that? Only because they have a different opinion than you have. I think that they are right, you are a hater!

Kilroy?

Like I said. It's likely Kilroy

Counting a multiple way tie for 3d as an actual 3d place finish (which I did in my average) is actually bunk.

Even pathetically fudging it by subtracting the first years, 4.67 (i.e., 5th) is hardly anything to brag about. Like I said, it’s respectable.

I’m such a hater.

Lolz

You boys...

So are Kirk Ferentz' B10 championships not valid because they were both a tie for first place? Get out of here with that noise.

Crapping on a 3rd place finish is a little pessimistic. Don't look at it as how many teams did as well as us. What's important is how many teams did better than us. In 14/15 and 15/16 only two teams in the league outperformed the hawks. Ain't too shabby.

It's his job to break news. I'm all good with it... If anything Bakari should have not let the cat out of the bag, if he wanted it to be a surprise.

Regardless, welcome Bakari!!! Darn glad to have you as a Hawkeye!!

Hater sums it up pretty well. Not my words, but someone pegged you pretty well.

Because adding in tie breakers in an unbalanced schedule somehow makes it less bunk? Wow

Fudging numbers? That’s rich. How about looking it objectively and not crediting FM with the worst coach in the history of Iowa basketball. Averaging 4.67 (or 5th) is not great, but it’s pretty damn good and the best we’ve seen at Iowa since Lute Olson. Then again, I didn’t see anyone bragging about it either. Correcting bad math isn’t bragging.

Well that sucks... sorry it was ruined for them but I am glad he is a Hawk.

Here is Fat Sharty's latest rant.

"I’ve since been told that the kid wanted the media to wait so he could announce it. I would’ve gladly waited, but wasn’t aware that was the case until after I had tweeted it. Feel bad for the kid, but couldn’t care less what the bitchers and moaners think."

So it was kinda okay until the last sentence. Why did he have to go there?
