What comes to mind? I put Rush in the great songwriting, mediocre lead singer bucket. The badlnd wouldn't have been Rush without Geddy Lee, but they should have found a different singer.

Bob Dylan is probably the namesake for awards in this category.
What about the voice of Geddy Lee. How did it get so high? I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy.
Anthrax to the top of the list. Excellent metal music with a hair band singer. They could have been so much better.
Vedder and Weiland are atrocious vocalists, IMHO. Like nails on a chalkboard.
I think of them as prototypical rock band singers. Billy Corgan is nails on chalkboard for me. His voice is awful.

I can see that. But I much prefer SP over STP or PJ. But I also love Rush and Geddy's voice.
Chris Cornell was a great singer, and I love Soundgarden, but a lot of the lyrics are just words put together.
I'll likely be called out to Fight Bar for this, but the obvious answer from my perspective is Guns N' Roses. Axl sucks as a vocalist IMO.
I wouldn’t say he’s a band, I don’t think he’s even a songwriter, and I don’t think he’s even remotely good, but a lot of people like Luke Bryan and his voice makes me cringe.

R.E.M. is one that comes to mind not mentioned yet. Great music and lyrics but I hated Stipes whiny nasally voice. I have same as mentioned with Billy Corgan but he could overcome it and rocked harder so got over it. Just about every R.E.M. song would have been better with a better singer.
Brian Johnson, I guess. I imagine some will consider it heresy that I don't care for his voice.

Agreed. I was shocked and incredibly disappointed after listening to the Back in Black LP for the first time. I was maybe 10 years old and couldn’t stand Johnson. He eventually became tolerable, but Bon Scott is the greatest ever.
