The latest roster on Hawkeyesports shows the addition of Spencer Hutchison (walk-on) and the subtraction of Nimmers. Hutchison is a 6'4" guard out of Dallas.
I get the feeling that Fran let Nimmers know he's not getting a scholly even after his return, so he's moving on......TOS is indicating Nimmers is going to a JUCO.
I'm not sure if Hutchison was a recruited walk-on, or if he enrolled on his own.
It said in the story he took a gap year.......

Taking the Murray approach, hopefully his story ends similarly. It said in the story he took a gap year.......

It seems like he should be a true freshman, given the facts as they are presented.Spencer Hutchison graduated high school in 2022.
Someone correct me if I am wrong but it does not appear he did anything (prep school, etc) for the 2022-2023 academic year; it looks like he just took a year off. The story linked above says "he appears to have taken a gap year after his senior year of high school & enters the program as a 20-year-old redshirt freshman."

Thanks. Weird. Seems like a typo.![]()

Sounds like he had a gap year
Sounds like he had a gap year
Maybe saved money for college.yeah, I was just curious what he did exactly from May, 2022 (when he graduated high school) until now. He didn't do what the Murray twins did, as @Mohawkeye suggested. Sounds like he just took a year off from school and worked on his game....
Wishing and guessing would be a better descriptions.Lol.
Nimmers clearly was never close to all that people implied.
I mean, isn’t that essentially what the Murray’s did?yeah, I was just curious what he did exactly from May, 2022 (when he graduated high school) until now. He didn't do what the Murray twins did, as @Mohawkeye suggested. Sounds like he just took a year off from school and worked on his game....
Not hardly, not even close. The Murrays went to an ELITE prep school were they were coached and expanded their games by playing against other top prep schools, and a great many D1 level athletes. I think they also played some juco teams. Thats not the same thing as taking a year off and maybe playing pickup games somewhere...I mean, isn’t that essentially what the Murray’s did?
They all took off a year before going to college, that was really the only point I was trying to make when comparing them. Not hardly, not even close. The Murrays went to an ELITE prep school were they were coached and expanded their games by playing against other top prep schools, and a great many D1 level athletes. Fran annoys us all about a lot of things but he has a superb eye for talent and I trust him implicitly.Wishing and guessing would be a better descriptions.
There was nothing to imply because everyone had all the same information to go on.
Anyone who allowed themselves to overlook the zero offers out of high-school was fooling themselves.

Whatever. The point stands. The twins went to prep and worked on their games and got noticed by D1 schools that would not have otherwise. Or is that not correct either? Meanwhile our incoming walk on took a "gap year", and worked at a BK or something. Hardly the same thing, which was the crux of my comment.....DME is not an ELITE prep school.
The Murrays did NOT "take a year off" They were perfecting their craft, and I'm pretty sure they had to attend some type of class work at a "prep school". How is that the same thing as a "gap year"?They all took off a year before going to college, that was really the only point I was trying to make when comparing them.
JFC. Whatever. God bless you and the horse you rode in on.The Murrays did NOT "take a year off" They were perfecting their craft, and I'm pretty sure they had to attend some type of class work at a "prep school". How is that the same thing as a "gap year"?
Yeah, Fran had a first hand look at the guy for a year. What we saw on that tape was obviously not indicative of the full real picture.Fran annoys us all about a lot of things but he has a superb eye for talent and I trust him implicitly.
The Murrays went to prep school after their senior year at Prairie. Going to prep school for a year does nothing to impact the college eligibility clock, so there’s no reason they would be redshirt freshmen.A few questions - did the Murray's go to prep school after their senior year or instead of doing their last year at Prairie?
If it was after their senior year, why weren't they RS freshman when they got to Iowa?
And finally, anyone that saw the Nimmers video had to be impressed. Yes, a highlight video, but he did things in that video that no Hawkeye guard has done in years. What's the story? Able to make flashy moves but otherwise is a mistake machine?
Confusing.
So, skipping a year costs you a year of eligibility? The Murrays went to prep school after their senior year at Prairie. Going to prep school for a year does nothing to impact the college eligibility clock, so there’s no reason they would be redshirt freshmen.
Huh? I wrote that going to prep school for a year DOESN’T impact your college eligibility clock. So, skipping a year costs you a year of eligibility?
Weird
