Beamer to Retire

Frank Beamer is hanging it up at VA Tech following this season, making The Captain & Bobby Stoops the longest tenured coach's in the FCS. God, I'm old!

Hawkeyes are soooo lucky to only have two head coaches in 35 years.

What a luxury to have that kind of stability in such an unstable sport.

Sad to see Beamer go. He was a great coach, but it was time for him to hang it up.

Hayden coached 20 seasons here. At the time of his retirement what was his rank in coaching tenure, I wonder? I doubt he was ever the longest tenured coach. Different times back then though.

Ummm ... Paterno and Bowden were still coaching, right?

Yes, of course, but I think Hayden was third to those 2 in 1998. Kind of my point about different eras. Schools just don't keep coaches as long these days. I found this article, and it mistakenly didn't even even mention Fry.
