Believe he's related to stache. Distant relative of sideburnsWho si Beard?
Who si Beard?
I don't think PSU fans thought he was going there. I think they wanted him there. I think the PSU staff believe he will be a 97 pounder and with AJ Nelvis already aboard they will focus more time on Whittlake who most will replace Nickal at 84, if he grows.#1 182 from Malvern Prep, PA. PSU fans seemed to think he was coming there....

Good to see him help build back NW. What will it take for that school to have a roster more in line depth-wise with most of the other Big 10 schools? Don't they carry like 1/3 less kids - leading to a slew of forfeits if injuries hit?Agree with this. Pretty sure everyone on the boards wanted him, myself included. Plus, one of the coaches from Malvern posts regularly on BWI and said at the beginning of the summer that Beard was very interested in PSU and a commit could come soon. I know the Malvern HC personally and IHO Beard is definitely a 197 in college. A couple of months later and an insider posts about Whittlake being a focus and Beard not so much.
I can only assume what Ed posted above that they are OK with the assets they have on board for 197 - Cassar eligibility through 2019, Stout through 2020, Nevills through 2021 - and are more focused on recruiting a replacement for Nickal when the time comes. Contrary to HR opinion, the PSU scholarship fund is not a bottomless pit. Add in the fact that Northwestern is just a tremendous pick for any academically oriented student (Beard is a 4.0 kid at a pretty nice private school) and it makes a ton of sense.
I think it's a mistake - I think Beard is going to be awesome in college - but Cael has a much better track record in recruiting than I do. I guess we'll see.
A more supportive AD maybe?Good to see him help build back NW. What will it take for that school to have a roster more in line depth-wise with most of the other Big 10 schools? Don't they carry like 1/3 less kids - leading to a slew of forfeits if injuries hit?
I believe their roster limit is 20. Really hard to have depth with those restrictions.Good to see him help build back NW. Agreed, I think Beard > any of those you named at 197 - no disrespect, Beard is going to be a good one. Seems like a great choice to fill 197 - especially when you have Cenzo/Mansville/Hall for 165/174/184 in future.
