Havent seen a beer thread in a while. Please post any beer related stories that you can think of.

For the first time out here a large number of grocery stores have received allotments of this years Hopslam. It is boxed six-pack cans. Pretty excited to be able to take home for first time.

It has been interesting to watch the progression of the distribution here in NY. From having no access a handful of years ago to now when not only do a lot of bars get it but now it is in stores- and not just in the city.

It feels like a number of DIPAs have caught up to HS now, but it is still fun when the beer gets released.

Damn you! Saw this post and went out and grabbed a case. For $62, this stuff better be good.

It's good. Very good.

Worth the price...not so sure, but I get at least a 6 pack each year. Holding a few cans back this year for a canoe float in late spring.

I went to the Ballast Point Brewery last week. We got there at about 10:40, and didn't really think to check the hours as we went in. We got 8-8oz. samples, and right after they were given to us they announce that it's last call, and that they close at 11. Eff word. I really didn't want to have to drink those quickly, but we weren't about to waste the stuff.

I'm not an IPA guy, and I know that's what they're known for, but I did enjoy the Sculpin Nitro IPA. Their pineapple IPA was great, and perfect for someone like me who needs that hoppy edge toned down a bit. My favorite was the Calm Before the Storm, a cream ale with coffee and vanilla, and Sextant is a good oatmeal stout.

Cool experience. Would do again.

I'll be mooching some off my neighbor who scored a 6er.

I missed the distribution day down here. Everywhere i called sold out the same day.

I don't think it's overrated - it's really good. But there are so many excellent IPAs nowadays I don't do any extra effort to get it.

+1. I just finished up a case of Uinta's Hop Nosh that just as good and half the price

Toppling Goliath released King Sue yesterday afternoon. I am hoping they still have some later today when I go there.

They have 23 cases left. Hopefully you're there in line already.

I missed out on bottles, but I was at least able to try it. It lived up to the hype. We didn't stay at TG that long as the place was packed. I couldn't believe all the out of state/area license plates there. They are sitting on a gold mine.

We checked out Pulpit Rock Brewery and I was pleasantly surprised. Decent selection and while it was crowded, it wasn't as bad as TG.

I ended up getting growlers from both places so I am set for beer this week. Next time I will avoid the weekend crowd.

Pulpit Rock Brewery? Is that new? That is usually where we stay when we camp in Decorah but had not heard of a brewery by the same name.

My local watering hole had a keg of Hopslam. It's good but way, way overhyped.

Pulpit Rock is a block south of TG. It is in a building that use to be a laundromat. Their 5th Ave IPA was fantastic.

Is anyone else sick of IPAs? Every other thing that isn't Coors Light, is a freaking IPA. I wish micro breweries would start working on something else. A Bock or a stout or even an ESB would be nice for a change. And for Christ, it's February. I don't want some half-assed Hefeweizen.

The IPA thing is out of control. But, it's what sells, so...

All microbreweries brew things other than IPAs. People like you are the reason they brew other things and I don't mean that in a bad way.

Yeah King Sue is crazy. They pretty much tell the day of or before that they are bottling it and then sell it the day they bottle it. It sells out within 24 hours.

I didn't go this time, but I have been to Pulpit Rock. You're right. It was a pleasant surprise.

Good news is TG is expanding so their special release beers should be easier for those in the vicinity to get.

I don't, actually. And I'd be happy to pay for them and the shipping

I know you would. I'm the same way. I don't have paypal and I don't want you to pay for them anyway. They are beers I would just let sit in my fridge until they go bad or give them away.

If you're serious, you can email me at garry37owen@yahoo.com

Someday... and that day may never come... I'll call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this justice as gift on my daughter's wedding day. Or just beer it forward one day.

Hopslam is old news. Two Farted is decent, but about as good as you're going to get in the midwest.

It is my favorite style of beer so no, I am not sick of them, but I understand your point. Our local brewery usually has 6 handles of their own and typically just one is an IPA. There is usually a nitro milk/coffee stout, an APA, and American cream ale, and currently a raspberry porter. I think it is more to do with everyone, including beer makers, being punch drunk by the IPA craze. It is the black North Face jacket of the beer world right now.

Have you never had anything from Toppling Goliath or Three Floyds?

Heck even Surly's Todd the Axeman and Abrasive blow Hopslam out of the water.

I cold just as easily say that Stone is the best your going to get on the West Coast.

Agreed. I'm an IPA lover and have had beers from all over. Different regions have different styles, but between Surly, TG, 3F and Bell's, there are some really top-notch midwestern brewers. I like a lot of Schlafly stuff as well. The Tasmanian IPA is great when fresh and first released in the fall.

I think Hopslam is really good. Understand the overhyped, highly priced and that Bell's master-markets it. But it is still a damn good beer.

Agree. The there are a good number of breweries in the Midwest that are really top notch and better than anything on the west coast. I mentioned TG and 3F because those are two in the Midwest that blow anything on the west coast out of the water.

The West Coast has Russian River which is basically a one trick pony and that's it. Meanwhile, breweries in the Midwest and New England have far surpassed the West Coast. That still doesn't stop the occasional poster from the West Coast from coming on here and turning their noses at Midwestern breweries. I just throw it right back at them.

West Coast breweries are sub par at best.

Need Pizza in CR had a few Pulpit Rock selections on tap when we ate there a few weeks ago. I tried the Doc Rems. I look forward to trying more.
