Thanks for the correction. You're right. Before my time watching Iowa BB, although I do vaguely remember seeing at least part of the Jacksonville game, and was thinking that was a final four game. I did see both JJ and Freddy play in the NBA live and on TV. I think I was mixing them up with the Fab Five of the 50s, which was before TVs and when I was a baby.
I raised three kids. All were born in Davenport before moving just outside of Chicago. I spent more than a few nights up late because of a sick child so I feel for you. But , now I'm frequently up all night because of my own health reasons.

Clark simply put, does things no one else does in womens basketball. Boston and Reese are great players but don't compare to Clark. She has to always be in the conversation for greatest hawkeye.
Really. You are using statistics from the woman's game as your marker. The game where nobody plays defense and I mean nobody. The game where the majority of her assists came from dumping the ball into a center who turned and shot a layup because the defense is just so, so good. The game where they play with a smaller ball, and Clark looks fast because everyone else is so slow it hurts to watch them run. Ronnie Lester never missed as many layups as Clark does and he didn't average nearly 5 turnovers a game against a much more physical defense than Clark will ever see.
Tell you what. Put the Iowa Womens team up against the Iowa Men's team where each player on the winning team gets $1,000 for every point they win by, and we'll see how good Clark and for that matter how good the women's game is.
Clark is great for the women's game but there is no way she is the best ever. She plays in what might be a high-level division 3 men's college league. No comparison.

My goodness. Your entire premise is flawed here. First Clark DOES play womans basketball, because she's a woman. That doesn't diminish her greatness in anyway. They play with a smaller ball, because they have smaller hands. Again thats obvious, and ALL the woman play with the same ball, so thats moot. A for your comment about defense, again WAY off base. Just like the men teams nationally are rated by how they rank against their peers defending. Iowa played several of the top defensive teams in the tourney, and the B1G, and she torched them all, including South Carolina who held ALL other teams in check to an average of 20 some points below their average, and around 38% shooting. So Clark drops 41 on them after a 41 point triple double against Louisville, (also a good defensive team). To add, if you REALLY believe that Clark gets most of her assists by simply "dumping the ball" onto the post, then its obvious you don't watch her games and how 1/3 of her assists are on the fast break as she rips and runs in transition. Her post feeds are much more then just dump downs, and her passing is almost always on time and right where the post needs it to score with the least effort. She often directs the post with hand gestures, moving them to the most effecient spot to receive the pass. Many of her turnovers, (which have gone down every year) are because she see's the game faster then her team mates, and often makes passes they just aren't prepared for. And yes she attempts some that just aren't there at times.
Trying to compare Clark by saying she'd be a D3 level mens player is foolish at best. She's not a man, and should not be expected to be one physically. That doesn't for one second mean she hasn't changed the way HER game is played unlike any Iowa player, man or woman. To use your analogy the men should be able to drop three's at a 38% rate from the half court line because they are stronger, correct? Just for the record, in this previous season Clark led ALL of college basketball in three point % from beyond 26ft at over 36% and that was for BOTH men and women. That why she's called logo Clark.
Like many here, I saw Ronnie play, and followed Downtown Freddy and JJ and their undefeated B1G 1970 team, (on the radio), and they were all GREAT players. BUT none of them changed their game the way Clark has changed hers. Thats not debateable .

All the points you make support my position vs yours and your argument continues to fall back on statistics like scoring 41 against a good defensive team. Again, this supports my position. Great against females, ehh against males. As for her passing, please. Most of her passes are telegraphed and a decent defender would stop the vast majority of them. Also, if you pay attention to the game, rarely do defenders ever find the ball on a fast break. Most of the time they are running down court with their backs to ball.
She is the best female player at Iowa ever. She is not the best player at Iowa ever.
Apparently, you are one of those people who believe that there is a physical difference between men and women which I also support, but again, the question was the best player, and that she is not. As for being able to shoot from half court, which she does not do on anything resembling a consistent basis, (she shoots from the extended logo, not half court) we' would have to see how the men do with a Jr. High men's basketball.

I'll just say this. Admittedly until the last several years I payed little attention to the womens game. Their success the last 5 or 6 years and Clarks play have changed that, and having 4 grand daughters now I guess changed my perspective on girls sports. We raised three sons, so girls sports we're the farthest thing from my mind. I guess at this point, I just don't agree that you seem to think our womens team playing for the National title is somehow less meaningful for the University then the men if they were to ever get there. This is not 1990, and womens sports have an impact on prestige and $$. The womens team has developed a following and fan base that exceeds the mens team and for good reason. They sell out Carver, (possibly all of next years games). All the players have T shirts designed about them. You don't see any of that with the mens team. Maybe Clark is not the greatest basketball player at the University based solely on athleticism, but she's no slouch there either, and she's been the most impactful player of either gender.
