Best overall season ever?

If the season ended today, then it would be up there... But it is Way too early for that. Let's see how the rest of the season turns out. Would need to win some post-season games too. IMHO.

I am liking what I have seen so far! In basketball, the bench play is getting better by the game. Keep giving minutes to Baer & Uhl, Include some minutes for Williams & Wagner. Even just a few, they seem to play within themselves and understand their roles. Experience is good.... Then sprinkle in some for Ellingson & Fleming when we can.

Barring upset tomorrow, we are about to crack the AP Top 10 for the first time in Fran's tenure, making this a season where both FB and men's BB have accomplished this feat.

By my research, this will mark the 4th time in the past 50+ years this has happened (both cracking the Top 10 in the same year).

The last time this happened was the 1988-89 season. The other 3 were 86-87, 83-84, and 81-82. In none of those did both finish in the Top 10 (only BB in 86-87). FB turned out to be a stinker in 88-89, just like BB was in 83-84, so in only two of those seasons did both actually finish ranked (81-82 and 86-87).

The last time both FB and men's BB finished in the Top 10 was the 1960-61 season (FB #3, BB #8).

So yeah, even though there's still a long way to go, this has the potential to be a pretty good year. :)

I think RDM's senior year we hit #10 at some point but, should we beat MI Sunday, this team may stay up there a while.
Yep. I stand corrected.

Looking through the data, it's amazing to me how difficult it is to finish Top 10 in BB based on how few times it's happened over the past 50 years or so, and yet KF and HF have landed us there almost routinely in FB (for Iowa, that is).

This team will be pretty special if they can finish somewhere up there--let's hope Fran and the boys are up to the challenge. Regardless, even if they can just finish somewhere in the Top 25, to the OP's point that will place this season overall in some pretty rare company.

It's a good year to be a Hawkeye fan, so far. Top ten football team, possible top ten bball team, #2 wrestling team (not unusual though) and a very successful baseball season. Also women's basketball is top 25 I believe but I haven't checked in a while. We are running on all cylinders

Ummm we made the Final 4 twice with Bucky O'Conner as coach in the Mid 50's, right around the same time Evy was winning 2 Rose Bowls. Did the 2nd Final Four year correspond with Evy's 1st Rose Bowl victory? I think it did. 1956 Hawkeye hoops played for the championship against San Francisco (Bill Russell) and Evy's 1956 Hawkeyes won the 1957 Rose Bowl.
