Looking for suggestions for best barbecue places in Kansas City. Headed down for a concert and would like to do a late lunch when we leave Thursday. Suggestions appreciated.

My two favorite: LC's and Oklahoma Joes (might just be called Joe's now).

Can't go wrong with Oklahoma Joe's (I think they changed their named to just "Joe's BBQ", and the line can be obnoxious) or Smokin' Guns in North KC.

BB's Lawnside is in a pretty dive part of town, but good BBQ and live blues music is pretty awesome (probably not the best lunch destination).

I was pretty "meh" on Gates. Never got around to Arthur Bryant's or Woodyard, but heard good things. If you're in the Plaza area you could head to Jack Stack, but like all things in the Plaza - it's pretty spendy and not entirely traditional BBQ.

That's all I got.

Third vote for BB's. It's a dump, but the food is great. Industrial part of town, but easy to get to if you don't mind driving past a lot of houses with bars on the windows.
We were there on a Saturday night and the place was rocking with live bands. I think each Saturday they bring in one or two groups, but they mix and match, and even allow people to join them on stage (Assuming you are not some drunk and can sing and play a little).

A relatively new place is called Charbar and it is excellent, much better atmosphere than Joes.

The original Arthur Bryant's is the answer.

This. I love it. Every time we would go down to a KC Chiefs game this had to be a stop before we came home.

Joe's is awesome as well and it all depends on what I want for where I end up. I like Bryants ribs and sauce better but no one does burnt ends like Joe's.

Next three in order:
Gates
Stacks
BB's

Just wanted to say thanks again for the suggestions. Really wanted to try Joes but with our schedule and location we opted for Q39. The Brisket and Burnt Ends Plate was ridiculously good. The sauce was a little sweeter than Memphis Barbecue but the smoke flavor and the tenderness of the meat was beyond anything I'd had before. Had about a 20 minute wait and we were actually seated near the kitchen. Watching the production of turning out the food was pretty entertaining and they really do it right. Service was excellent too. I know how ratings can be on Tripadvisor but this place currently sits at number 1 on their listings.

I'm sure everyone has reasons for their favorites so I'll try someplace different next time.

Really hard to go wrong in KC when it comes to barbecue.

What you ought to do is go to Stroud's for fried chicken.
I've had it at a catered event but never at one of their locations. Really good stuff but I'm not a huge fried chicken fan. I guess I'm a lazy eater.
