It’s really just the QB recruiting and the WR recruiting that’s sucked. And it’s because the scheme, play calling and conservatism for years is just awful for those two positions in particular.

They’ve been pretty good until last week this year. The development and injuries have been the bigger issues, most of the guys on the O line had pretty good offer lists. Our QB’s and WRs, not so much.

Yes, because EVERY team in the country at every level has a better QB than Iowa does. Well, better STARTING QB. Iowa appears to have some talent on the bench, but talent on the bench doesn't help. Stubborn, foolish old men are not good bets to run anything, from a football team to a country. KF has the answer to Iowa's offensive problems standing next to him on the sidelines, but he won't let him play. Brendan Sullivan, in his cameos as well in his time at Northwestern, has clearly shown he is Iowa's best QB, that he would give Iowa the best chance to win. Yet he continues to collect dust and splinters while the old man chews his gum and takes his notes. C'mon, Beth. Do the right thing. Save Iowa football and show KF the door at the end of the season, and clean house. Everybody should be let go, and the new head coach given the opportunity to re-hire anyone if he wants, LeVar Woods, for example. But Iowa needs new leadership throughout the football program. And everyone knows it.

OTOH: Those ratings mean nothing to KF, the QB whisperer. He knows Cade is improving. And he knows Sullivan is a far better QB. But he won't make a change because he'd rather lose games than lose face. KF has made that clear for years now. Deacon Hill . . .

I guess the numbers would disagree with you. Only 4 sacks total in the previous 4 games with a mostly immobile qb is really good. I also recall several linemen graded out well in PFF.

Injuries have been a well documented issue for several years. More than average number of issues. This year, they’ve been healthier than average. A big reason for the improvement.

While we haven’t brought in elite skill position players, we can’t pass block to get anyone the ball.

The narrative of Kirk being some OL genius has long passed. He never adapted to the blocking rule changes and that’s pretty much when our OL began to look like matadors

I’ll say this again. While Cade is clearly not good, he’s become the whipping boy just like Petras. Petras developed PTSD behind our o line, scheme and terrible receivers. However, he at least had LaPorta and a few receivers that could play in the MAC. Cade has a busted up Lachey, a Freshman from Rock Rapids that every time they showed him Saturday was getting thrown out of bounds and a backup from NW as our number 1. The fact we’re winning any games when you’re almost 100% 1 dimensional and the other teams are playing 8 in the box is crazy. It’s scheme, it’s talent, it’s everything. No matter how much better Cade gets it’s not going to get much better than it is. If we have a 200 yard passing game the rest of the season I’ll be shocked.
