I see the Big 12 is adding 6 more teams in just the sport of wrestling. NDSU, SDSU, AirForce and Colorado St. are a few that I can remember. I haven't seen any discussion on this ( could have missed it) so I thought I would post it. I think this is really good for the Big 12. I do realize that these new teams aren't on the same level as Okie, IA. St. or Okie St. at this time but I would think It should help them with recruiting going forward.

No, it's Northern Colorado, Wyoming, South and North Dakota State, Utah Valley and Air Force. I was hoping it was the Mac coming in but this is a start.

Original discussion was with ACC and Big 12, but couldn't agree on which conference to merge into. At least that is what I originally heard.

I suppose that it's good that the Big 12 will once again get automatic qualifiers, but those are some uninspiring teams for this conference.

I think it's interesting after looking at this selection that the Big 12 turned down UNI a few years back when they approached the conference for wrestling admission

Boy isn't that the truth. Big 12 overall has come up on the short end of all this realignment dance.

Can't speak for all of the Big 12, but every year OSU wrestles against all of the top teams out of conference. We don't need B1G schedule to prove who we are, also don't need to be beat up just before Nationals. Could be that is one of the reason we are peaking at the right time.

Sure, you wrestle a tough schedule. You then get a cupcake conference tourney, unlike the Big Ten and to a lesser extent, EIWA/MAC.

I think this makes for a pretty well rounded conference. Face it the Big Ten is brutal and is not for everyone. In fact OSU has had some relatively great performances at nationals the last few years and I wouldn't doubt their schedule leading up to it had a lot to do with it.

There are usually a couple quality guys at each weight form those 6 schools every year. If I was Smith I would be fine with the level of this addition.

UNI would make sense. Good bball program, good wrestling and their football can compete with plenty of middle of pack D1 teams. That would be a great move for UNI. Unfortunately they don't move the needle much for a conference that already has ISU.

UNI cannot afford an FBS football program nor do they have the fan base to do so.

I'm sure everyone realizes this is only a wrestling based move. These schools aren't joining the Big12 for anything but wrestling, every other sport is irrelevant in this discussion because the other teams where not included. Just saying.

For example, if the Big 12 and WWC had been combined this year, 125 would have had 7 NCAA bids (out of 10). 165-184 probably with 5 each.
