Watching the Dave Gavitt games this week between
the Big East and the Big Ten. It is a misnomer to
think all 10 teams in the Big East are from the East.

Four of the teams are from the Midwest. Butler (Indiana)
DePaul (Illinois) Marquette (Wisconsin) Creighton (Neb)
Big East must like the TV markets of Chicago, Milwaukee
and Omaha. Just like Big Ten likes the TV markets of
Maryland and Rutgers.

Conference names are often nonsensical in current context. The Big Ten hasn't been composed of ten members for years. Conferences that have history want to keep that for branding/marketing reasons. That's essentially what it comes down to.

TV sets arent what drove this conference. They are all private Catholic schools without DI scholarship football.

The Big East is for basketball schools. If any of them have football it's on a lower division than the basketball. These schools needed somewhere to belong where the bb is major.
