BIG Sportsmanship Recipients Includes

This is really perplexing. I like what Connor brings, but sportsmanship isn't one of the things I think of when his name comes up.

In a tense situation he's more likely to inflame things than calm them down.
Each institution selects their own recipient for the Sportsmanship Award.

One member of each varsity sports team on every campus was chosen by his or her institution as a Sportsmanship Award honoree, and two Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners were then selected from each institution. All of the Sportsmanship Award winners have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, these honorees must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.

Conner is not a dirty player, but is a complete red ass. We as fans have no idea how he talks to officials. Just because he doesn't take any crap from an opposing player does not mean he isn't respectful. People think "sportsmanship" means being passive - it isn't. It's about playing hard but within the rules. We as fans should feel lucky to have a player like this. We've been wanting one for years.

Well said. The so-called "Iowa nice" has no damn business in a sports arena. Play hard, defend yourself and your teammates, play fair, show integrity, but never, ever back down. That's Connor and Luka and CJ and Joe T and Pemsl, at least.

Connor deserves a medal for NOT going after that Illinois thug who knocked the ball out of his hands, then threw a vicious elbow that failed to connect, after that foul on CJF. Connor was nose-to-nose with him, but I'm not sure many players would have shown such restraint. The Illinois kid should have been tossed. He was the clear instigator, and his actions showed malice.

As for ISU and its fans, who the hell cares? Do they even have a basketball team?

You are overstating the thrown elbow...by A LOT!

I think Connor is a good choice . He plays hard, but he isn't a dirty player. He never instigates things, but he doesn't back down when somebody does something inappropriate. Even in those situations he maintains self control.
