Big Ten Media Poll

The poll this thread is about?

but I was asking for the objective measure of that. I can't find it anywhere. Was wondering if you had a link somewhere. The KenPom ranks were the only thing I can find that year after year shows where you started and where you finished.

I'm not sure, but I believe he is referring to the Big Ten Media poll listing the order of finish in the conference.

Last season Luka had the 31st most FT attempts in the nation at 6.29/game, which given the amount he was assaulted on a regular basis, seems low to me. I remember several trips down the court when he was fouled more than once on the same possession without anything being called.
with the lack of crown noise, not only will the refs be able to see the blood and bruises, they should be able to hear the slaps, jabs and hacks.

unless they're deaf as well as blind

No blood no foul for Luka. Of course he was bleeding half the time so....

I agree. That just isn't something that is laying out there on the web to research. I mean I can find about 3 or 4 of the old polls, and partial bits of a few others, but certainly not enough to make a definitive statement about the relative over or under performance of teams year after year. I was wondering if that data was actually listed on some website that could be linked to because I find that sort of thing interesting.

The closest thing you could probably use is the preseason AP polls. You can look at the teams who didn't get preseason votes and make a guess as to who would've been higher in the preseason possibly? It wouldn't be exact, but it's probably the closest thing.

It's not related to objective measures. It's the media poll :)

The Big Ten Media predicted an order of finish.

At the end of the season, you can compare the actual order of finish against the predicted order of finish.

I believe BB was saying that Iowa is likely to perform better than the predicted finish in the Big Ten standings.

no kidding

he also said they have outperformed it every single season under Fran. That is the part I have a hard time believing and was looking for objective evidence of

I said "Iowa has ALWAYS overachieved under McC relative to polls like this. "
I missed one year where Iowa finished lower under McC as noted astutely by Legend. The other 9 years Iowa exceeded the preseason pick by the media, i.e., they finished higher in the league. Not rocket science.

After comparing the schedules of Iowa and Illinois, I have to admit that Illinois should win the conference by at least 2 or 3 games. Their schedule is defiantly the easiest schedule that a frontrunning team like Illinois could ask for.
They play Rutgers, Purdue, Michigan St, Iowa, Maryland, & Michigan once. They play Nebraska, Northwestern, Minnesota, & Penn St twice.
And yes they do play Ohio St, Wisconsin, & Indiana twice, but my god, the Big Ten couldn't have handed the team from Champaign and easier path to the Championship.....

4th in this years big 10 is a sweet 16 team.

I would agree. But some folks here on this board will be throwing a fit if Iowa doesn't win the Big 10, go to the Final 4, or both. As a program, Iowa hasn't seen to the Sweet 16 since freaking 1999. I will be doing cartwheels if this Iowa squad makes it to the second weekend of the NCAA tournament.

Yeah might be easier to get to the sweet 16 than to win the conference especially without a greatly improved defense. Conference season is long and winning the conference usually requires a consistently good defense especially when teams no each other so well. But get in to the tournament against teams that haven't played Iowa and Iowa is going to cause problems especially Garza. A lot of times teams are carried in the tournament by great individual performances.

and I am still wondering where the link to that information is because I cannot find it anywhere online.

I enjoy perusing and referencing historical data.

One thing that might favor Illinois is they didn't have any "bad" loses last season. Everyone that beat them was good. Given our loss to Depaul, Nebraska and Purdue, both home and away, we can't make that claim.

Miami was a horrible loss. Down 25 and had a last second play to win it, but the team was lethargic at home.

Guess you'll have to take our word for it.

I will take your word that in your head you have a perception that may or may not match reality.

But honestly I just wanted to see the data so I could compare lots of other coaches and programs over the years. I guess I will have to stick to KenPom which shows rankings throughout the season from start to finish and archives it for future reference.

How's that working for football?
