The Illini play 3 games in 3 days. So, suddenly they will get in almost half of their nonconference schedule.

I like their plan...a lot. Kinda wish Iowa had done this. If you are gonna play Northern Illinois in your nonconference, why not have them part of this current multi- team event (MTE)?
Illinois was supposed to play Wright State yesterday instead of Chicago State. Wright State won 27 games last year and return a lot but Covid hit them and Illinois scrambled for an opponent. So even an MTE can have issues.

just curious:

* when did Wright State start having problems & when did Chicago State get put on the schedule?

* how flexible is the B1G in terms of allowing schedule adjustments like this? when a wright state, who is on your schedule, suddenly can't play, can you simply pick up the phone & try to find a replacement? Are you happy with how this played out & how the B1G is handling the nonconference?

Let's not get Nebraska's opinion on this subject, what with Tenn-Chattanooga in football..vbg

Wright St announced they were out on 11/20. Chicago St was added the next day. Big Ten has very little say over non-conference games, that's pretty much all done by the schools themselves. Exception being the conference challenge type events, I guess the Big Ten decides which schools play in the Gavitt Games, for example.

I see on Minnesota's schedule that they apparently play Loyola Marymount again on Monday. Is that an entry error, or is ot actually happening?

The Gophers men’s basketball team will play Loyola Marymount twice to replace a matchup with North Dakota State as part of its multi-team event Saturday and Monday at Williams Arena, a source told the Star Tribune.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions in Minnesota, the Gophers are now only allowed to play one opponent during a three-day span at home.

LMU was originally scheduled to play the Gophers in the MTE in Minneapolis. But NDSU recently had expected to replace Eastern Washington in the event.

Loyola Marymount is led by first-year coach Stan Johnson, who replaced Mike Dunlap after the team finished 11-21 in his sixth season. The Lions return 6-foot-6, 245-pound senior Eli Scott, who averaged 15.4 points and 6.6 rebounds. Scott played at Chino Hills High School in California with the Ball brothers, Lonzo and LaMelo.

Johnson, a former Marquette assistant, is familiar with Minnesota since he helped the Golden Eagles sign former Prior Lake five-star big man Dawson Garcia, now a freshman.

Johnson's first big recruiting get at LMU was convincing 7-3 Swedish center Mattias Markusson to return to the program. Minnesota, Louisville and San Diego State were also finalists for Markusson when he entered the transfer portal in the spring.

I’ve only seen a few teams play, so I don’t have much of a gauge for the conference strength.

That being said Ohio St is finishing bottom 4. Sometimes stats can be revealing. Other times stats are flat out wrong. Preseason top 10 in kenpom is flat out wrong. Egregiously wrong.

DJ Carton with the missed free throw. Marquette somehow tips it in for the win... Too bad for Bucky. Almost feel sorry for them... Ha! Nope 🤣

You're going to upset the self appointed board president if you keep posting these things.

I find that interesting to say that the BIG has very little to say about non con schedules? Did my eyes deceive me or did the league just mandate no football non con games? Why would their control for basketball be any different then football?

It isn't different under normal circumstances. This football season was a bit unique in case you hadn't noticed. All the schools agreed to canceling the non-conference season, it wasn't a "mandate".

Found out more about the Illinois replacement game, it was actually done just 30 min after Wright St cancelled!

If you say so. Personally I don't think all the schools agreed on much of anything. Given the amount of teams looking to play even once they cancelled the season initially, I don't believe there was a consensus from the member schools, at least not from the AD's and coaches.....

I admit that Penn St. shocks me. They fire Chambers, lost some key players and then have housed two decent opponents and lost a close one against Michigan. Might they be a tourney team?

All updated faster with a lot more information.

Updated after 1/2 games
Michigan is on top of the league as of this morning. The 3 teams they have beaten are a combined 1-10 in league play: Penn St, MD and Nebraska. Looking at their schedule prior to league play: Bowling Green, Oakland, Ball St, Toledo and Central Florida. ... They still haven’t played a Top 25 team. They get NW at home today.

I thought after Nebbie overpowered McNeese St. they might go on a roll and be a threat to win it all. I guess they will have to play the roll of giant killer.
