Big Ten Scores, Standings and Schedule (thru 4/6)

Re: Big Ten Scores, Standings and Schedule (thru 11/28)

Looks like NW and PSU have been punching above their weight thus far. In the past they've put together plenty of 5 to 7 loss non-conference campaigns. With our non-con this year, 19 or 20 wins would yield a stronger RPI, though I'm still hopeful we are aiming a bit higher.

Wisconsin is a bunch of lengthy white guys, like Iowa. Except Wisconsin plays to their potential.

Kaminski is a lot more skilled than Woody/Gabe. Kaminski has 3ball/dribble drive skills and better athlete than Woody and has too much size/skills for Oleseni.

Jackson---better size than Clemmons and Jackson was able to go one one one last year and makes big shots to win games.

Koenig ---- bigger than Gesell and makes his shots, FTs. Gesell doesn't

Gasser --- makes shots/Fts, plays defense. Better than Ogelsby.

Dekker -- Uthoff has better shooting skills, but not as tough defensively/getting loose balls.

Hayes-- has more 3pt game now than Whitey and has more 1/2 court post up game.

Iowa has too many head cases. Gesell/Ogelsby are supposed to be shooters. They aren't going to wow you with defense and athleticism. Shooters that don't make baskets. That is the Iowa curse.

Re: Big Ten Scores, Standings and Schedule (thru 11/29)

Not that it matters, but from the "lengthy white guys" standpoint keep in mind that Bronson Koenig is native american.

I believe Duje Dukan has a multi-ethnic background as well and Traevon Jackson and Nigel Hayes are obviously African-American, so I think it's really just 3 European-Americans in their rotation, not really "a bunch", like the OP described. I get it though: they usually have a lot of white guys (going back to non-PC) that are standout players for them.

Updated after Dec. 3 games. Big Ten wins the B1G/ACC Challenge 8-6

Re: Big Ten Scores, Standings and Schedule (thru 12/3)

It looks like we're kind of lacking in the quality wins department, other than Iowa St. and UNC, I think those are probably the two biggest so far for the BT. On the other hand, there sure aren't hardly any losses to the daisies. There's Rutgers of course, but then there's just Indiana losing to EWU and Nebraska losing to Rhode Island and that's really it.

Michigan St. might be in trouble.

Re: Big Ten Scores, Standings and Schedule (thru 12/5)

I'm gonna shut up now. N Florida beats Purdue. Looks like Tuesday is our last tap in, before Rutgers at least

The B1G is going to be a dogfight, just like we thought. Wisky is still a clear #1 and then you have 8 or 9 teams clumped. The NJIT defeat of Michigan is a real head scratcher.

Updated after another Nebraska loss to Creighton :(

Re: Big Ten Scores, Standings and Schedule (thru 12/7)

Michigan is going to have a hard time this year with lack of size.

So far, B1G not that impressive. Maryland is about the only team that has performed better than expected.

Re: Big Ten Scores, Standings and Schedule (thru 11/29)

Most teams are past their chances for getting quality wins in the non-conference except for Iowa. Once you get past ISU v. Maryland and Iowa @ UNC, where's the 3rd best win the Big Ten has? Wisky over Georgetown? For a while the BT at least didn't have many bad losses at all, but now they are starting to pile up. We certainly have the best chances to carry the water for the BT over the next 10 days. I think the B12 might end up having a stronger RPI as it appears teams like WVU, TCU and Texas Tech are all better...but it will be fairly close, and the Pac-12 seems pretty solid but I can't see us dropping below any other conference. Our OOC SOS is going to be very beneficial to us in March.

I would assume that the ACC also trumps the Big Ten at this point.
Michigan is disappointing right now.
PSU has overachieved.

Lot of decent teams in the league but not many FF contenders...Wis and maybe OSU...that's good for Iowa's shot at making the Dance...we could upset some of these teams.
