Saad wanted too much and they didn't have the cap room to keep him at his price.I thought the Hawks were going to do what they needed to keep Saad around. Would have rather they unloaded Sharp, which they may still do.
Do you have an opinion as to whether they should have taken the picks? I'm not wowed by the deal, and personally I'd rather stockpile picks. The Hawks do get one guy back who should be on the ice a lot next year. I'm a long term guy and I'd rather have the picks.Saad wanted too much and they didn't have the cap room to keep him at his price.
Options were to either overpay and have to dump other key parts, let him walk at his price for some compensatory draft picks, or make the best deal possible.
Maybe, maybe not.Did Saad piss Bowman off? He just killed Saad's career by sending him to Columbus. I don't care how much money he makes there, nobody will ever hear from him again.
Maybe, maybe not.
Saad would have always been in the shadow of guys like Kane and Toews and Crawford and Hossa if he had stayed in Chicago.
Columbus is positioned to be a pretty good franchise over the next few years and Saad can figure prominently in that success. The Jackets have a lot of young talent and they have Bobrovsky signed through 2019.
