Big TV Deals over? Analyst expects Comcast to lose 400,000 video subscribers this year

It will all come full circle. We are so dependent on internet that those prices will keep going up and up similar to cable costs through the years. Internet used to cost about $20 a month not that long ago. Now I pay $50+. If it ever comes to a point where the majority of the people use internet for TV, it will cost a lot of money to get an inferior cable viewing service. But the argument is that you need internet anyway so it offsets the cost I guess.

I have also wondered how the people abandoning cable will affect the big money dished out in TV deals for sports.
I'm told the 2 year promo I had for 150meg internet via Cox will be going away when my promo expires. I'll have to go to the 200 meg package for 90 and back down to 100 for 75ish. This is the last trump card the cable companies hold...and they've begun to enforce the data caps so ensure you're streaming tv isn't running all day when not home! I'm just surprised Cox and others ALL don't have their own streaming service...cable boxes, technicians, etc have to carry large overheads..

I have tried several of the streaming options for live sports and found youtubetv to be the best. I prefer it over PSVue and SlingTV for example. The good thing about all of them is you can try for 30 days for free to see what works best for you. The only caveat for youtubetv is that it is not available everywhere.

Remember, net neutrality was just overturned by the fcc, so net providers are now free to charge different amounts or otherwise restrict your access to websites or companies of their choice. Don't be surprised to see your internet bill go up even more, and added 'fees' to start appearing for all these streaming services. Don't kid yourself, these corporations are going to get you one way or another.

$20 for speeds under a meg, $50 or more for speeds in excess of 50 meg. Not equivalent.

Well, ESPN had to cut staff because revenues were going down and expenses were staying the same or increasing.

As I said above, a Comcast customer who gets ESPN obviously pays for ESPN as part of their monthly bill; part of that amount is then paid by Comcast to ESPN each month; the problem is when one company like Comcast loses over 150,000 customers in one year and 400,000 the next; that is a lot of money every month impacting both Comcast and ESPN

yeah; comcast started charging this $7 "broadcast TV fee" out of the blue; i asked what it was for and the girl must have been reading from a script because it still makes no sense to me, but obviously there is nothing you can do about it

Another option is Youtube TV. I think it's newer but my buddy dropped Sling for it and loves it so far. Not sure what channels differ from sling but might be worth checking out for anyone cord cutting!

I really really like Youtube TV. Very happy with it for $35 a month with an antenna.

The money that Delaney whored the B1G for won't be there anymore by 2025 or so and the Rutgers mistake will look even worse, but Jim will be retired counting his money....What can you expect from an ACC guy running the B1G?

I've looked into it in the past and you're not getting all the channels I'm getting for $85. If you don't care about those channels, then good for you, but I do. I want to be able to watch multiple shows without have to get in and out of different apps. It's not worth the hassle to save a few bucks and then not have as good of a product. FYI, I was streaming in the woods tens years ago with my Dish receiver and Palm Treo.

I watch all of the shows/stations I like in the same app (PSVue). I think the big problem with people being afraid to get rid of direct tv and dish is the on-screen feel is different. Yes, its a different guide. Once you get past that, its equally as simple. My dad 150 some odd dollars for direct tv just so he can get Fox Sports Midwest to watch the Cardinals play...that's highway robbery. The internet is going to own 'cable' within the next 5 years.

Agreed, it is definitely a change and as humans we tend to resist change no matter what the subject it is. I cut the cord two years ago and haven't looked back. You just need to do the research, be patient and try a few services and then you'll see the savings really add up! $150 a month for cable only is indeed robbery, I have PS Vue myself and I think the top plan is $59 or $65/month for an insane number of channels.

What I noticed right away about two years ago is that I needed a new router, at least 25 meg internet and a platform and service that streams sports in 60 frames. NCAA basketball seemed choppy on Vue, although that was more of a Firestick issue vs. a Vue issue. Now, the Vue app is much better, especially on Roku, and I think almost all stations are in 60 frames and the new Roku sticks are 60 fps as well, makes a big difference. PS Vue DVR is awesome as well! I'm saving about $60/month vs. Cox services.
