Probably the only factual thing Steve Deace has ever posted

I also think the premise of this analysis is a little off. Since recruiting is cumulative, 1 season actually is the product of 4-5 classes. In his analysis if OSU had 5 classes full of four stars and then the first year of his analysis started to drop off....it would look like they do a lot with less (the Iowa mold). Now obviously that didn’t happen. But just something to think about when looking at things like this.

I have tried to make a similar point on the Nebraska board that was not well received. Some fans think if you have a four consecutive top 20 cycles it automatically should translate to success on the field. It doesn’t work that way.

Think about it. Which class would you rather have? One that produces three stud defenders and an olineman or one that produces some solid starters and one stud QB?

In football the QB position makes all the difference and it’s still incredibly difficult to rate these kids out of high school.

At some point people need to understand that the best high school players will not always be the best college players. There is a tremendous amount of growth and maturity that takes place, especially in boys, between the ages of 17-22. Those who are more physically advanced at an early age are consider the "better" players and usually the higher ranked. Give the Iowa staff credit for recognizing potential and the one's who will be willing to take coaching.
