Is Kriener our only big man who can hit that mid range shot? What about the ones coming in next year?Love those dunks and close in shots, but also loved that timely Kriener basket last night.

Yeah that just seems to be the one thing they don't do, and at times are not big enough inside like when Indiana kept stuffing them.

I think Cook has some more range than he's shown. I think he's just been coached to push everything to the rim until he ups his percentages from 15 feet a bit more. Additionally, by forcing action at the rim with his athleticism, it draws more fouls.

I believe both Garza and Nunge have shooting ability away from the hoop, so... no, Kriener will not be the only one next year.

I expect we'll see Kriener and Garza/Nunge spend more time picking and popping, with Pemsl, Wagner and Cook rolling to the rim and/or carving out space down low. Garza will mix it up down low as well, but given the other bodies, he may be asked to space the floor more than would be typical for a guy his size.

Cook was taking the occasional 3 point shot in OOC, once into league play he only put a couple 3 pointers up. Just judging from what his stroke looks like shooting a 3 and from the FT line I think he should be able to add "mid range" to his arsenal.

I think Cook believes that shot is in his arsenal, but he wasn't hitting it so he became a paint beast. Hopefully, all of our bigs become more proficient with their mid-range jumpers before next season.

As nice as a mid-range jumper is, I'd rather have Cook be the BEAST in the paint he was last night. 50% on midrange jumper is work less than getting 30% of offensive rebounds and doing putbacks.

Garza has a nice mid range game to go along with an inside presense. Nunge is more early Utoff, with good range out to three. Both appear to be solid windex men, so love that. Both had multiple 15-20 rebound games late in their high school playoffs. Don't care what level you play at, 20 boards is a fine day at the office.

Cook has made a couple of threes on the year (he is 2-8), so I would think you will see him improve his range over the next year.

I don't want my bigs taking 3 pointers very often. Hard to control the boards from out there.

Living in the mid-range isn't a winning formula. The best offenses shoot point-blank shots (layups or dunks), 3-pointers and free throws. A player has to make a very big % of 2-point jump shot to make it a valuable shot. I like the fact that Kriener can hit the jumper, don't get me wrong.

Really no idea how Fran finds meaningful minutes for all the bigs next year. 1 and perhaps 2 of them could redshirt I would guess.

Don't see that at all. I think if Kreiner makes marked improvement in the offseason, he'll play a significant role next year. Fran's already said he doesn't plan to redshirt Garza or Nunge next year, and I doubt that changes, unless something happens.
Kreiners 12 to 15 ft jumper could be a valuable weapon next year. Can see him at the high post, feeding Cook or Pemsl, or shooting the open look. Good high low action, is another way to get point blank shots, without a guard penetrating the lane.

What is a significant role? I'm not trying to be difficult, just people need to realize more minutes won't magically appear. Cook, Pemsl and Wagner all will be back. As will Uhl, at this point. There are 80 minutes per game to go around for the 2 bigs. Cook, if his defense continues to get better, is going to be on the floor for 25-30 minutes if he's not in foul trouble. Pemsl will get a minimum of 15 minutes a game (probably more). Wagner will get anywhere from 12-20 minutes a game. If either Garza or Nunge breaks through there are more minutes to be divided, without even counting Uhl.

Kriener's skill set is interesting. The fact that he can shoot is a big plus. If he can play defense without fouling and get a little quicker in his movements/decision-making he could take a big step.

I don't necessarily think there need to be "more minutes" available to people, as much as "better minutes". I would love to see Cook go absolutely BEAST MODE for 20-25 minutes a game. Pemsl should be able to provide another 15-20 high energy/activity minutes crashing the boards and clogging the lane on defense. Then you've got 40 to split between Kriener, Wagner, Garza and then Nunge/Baer can manage their minutes more at the 3.

No I totally agree, Fran has a dilemma for next year, albeit a good one. Just think as the skill level of frontcourt players continues to upgrade, Wagner and Uhl will see their minutes diminish. Having said that, I'm not in Frans chair, and love the effort Wagner brings most nights. He played his butt off again wednesday. Tough decisions for Fran, but thats another reason these coaches make the big bucks.

I would much rather have Cook drawing double teams on the block and kicking to an open shooter. Pick your poison with JBo, Ellingson, Moss, Baer, etc. There are not many that will guard him in the block one on one in the next couple years.
