So, how many black wholes will be in the line up next season? If we don't get Rocky Elam from Missouri I think 97 is a black hole in the line up. 25 probably a black hole as far as scoring points at nationals. What other weights will we potentially struggle with?

We will have Ludington (sp) as a frosh 197, right? And DeLuca or Peterson, so far, at 125, right? They don’t look like black holes from here..

Peterson will absolutely improve in our room. He beat Lilledahl and pinned Richie Figs this year. If he finds some consistency he could absolutely AA and possibly high AA.

125 is going to enter the season ranked in the top 8 and has beat more than one AA.

Is the OP a troll post or just not paying attention to what has gone on the past week or so? Short of injury, Iowa could legitimately have AA threats at every weight with about 6 of them being top 4 threats.

This year’s lineup is poised to be the best top to bottom lineup they have had since the late 2000s(but, please don’t confuse that with me saying it is as good or better than those teams, it just doesn’t look to have a “weak” spot).

I am not a troll. I was simply asking. Lundington may be good to very good but it will be difficult as a true freshman. As far as transfers I just hope our guys will out perform last years transfers (except for Stephen B. of course). Black hole meaning no points or few points at Big Ten's and Nationals.

You just simply can’t account or plan for major injuries. Parco showed zero signs of injury until the 2nd match at NCAA’s and pretty much had a dream draw to the semis. For all of Teemer’s injuries over the years he had always shown up in full force in March.

As long as they stay healthy, this is the best top to bottom lineup Iowa will have in quite sometime and that is still true if they don’t land Elam. But, if they do, it will be a really fun team to watch. Picking a weight to go get an ice cream cone could be very difficult…

Elam has a long history of injury and from what I hear team missouri is not totally upset to see him go. I'm not sure he should be the play for 197.

What are the other available plays.

I don’t know. He took a full year to heal and fully recover. Before that he was top 6 all 4 years. If there is a better 1 year option out there I am all ears…
I'm not saying he's 100% not the answer, only that he has a long track record of injuries and a bit of a reputation as well. Nothing major on that front, but I'd be weary. Not that it matters but many on here will scoff and talk shit if ends up pulling a parco/teemer especially with his history of being hurt.

In this day and age, I’d rather see a talented frosh go his first year if there are no other viable alternatives. (Unless someone good parachutes in for a year.) Prioritizing a season five years down the road no longer makes much sense, imo.

It depends on the makeup of the weight class, who else the team has at the weight and how ready he is to win that early in his career.

In my time a redshirt was SO important just to get acclimated into the lifestyle of being away from home, while juggling academics, athletics and the temptations of nearly unlimited freedom. That doesn’t even include the big jump up in talent and competition that buries you when you first hit that room.

A true freshman being able to handle that is truly a case by case basis and should definitely not be assumed. Even Spencer Lee wasn’t decided until about halfway through the season…

Black Holes only when you compare Iowa's ability to score points and keep up with the top 2 teams. Let's face it Wrestling really lacks parity. Not even close. Okie St is doing their best to compete with PSU but Iowa isn't even close. Iowa will have 2-3 weights that will be big enough holes to sink the ship in competing with the top 2-3 teams. They will also lack the heavy guns to out punch their opponents.

It's a tough call but he did AA in 4 straight ncaas, the injuries must have been manageable enough. If he can go in 2026 odds are he'll be a high AA again. I'd take my chances.

What was his injury last year. Sounded like they thought it was career ending for a long time.

125 is most definitely an upgrade.

197 is replacing a national champion, will be a step back points wise but I doubt will be a "black hole".

Careful. They will crucify you on here for being objective. ;)

That’s not the issue. It’s the constant negative talk. When the team returns 5 guys that should be top 4. Landed 3 in the portal that are top 8 and one of them is Dean Peterson that’s a hole🙄. Meanwhile it sounds like the work is being done on the other two weights. If we ended up with 8 AAs next year that should be celebrated.

I think Iowa has the better lineup for next year, at least at this point. OSU will have a lot of talented but unproven guys in their lineup like Lockett, Facundo, Ryder/Thompson, and Merrill. Figs is new to 133 and didn't have good year last year. And 157 will either be a DNP (Travis), a new-to-the-weight guy (Jamison/Swiderski), or a freshman (Robideau). I am excited to see how the team performs, but for now I'd put OSU at #4 behind y'all and Nebraska.

Has Ludington and Adam Waters ever wrestled? I see he’s committed to Ohio state. Huge get for them but I was wondering why Iowa never tried to really get Waters or do they think Ludingtons better?
Waters looks like the man to me but I have no idea if maybe Ludington has beat him in the past or something.
Thx

"Career ending" in this context just meant he wasn't going to come back for his extra covid year - cant remember the injury but I remember Basch and the Brain talking about it on a show around the time he officially took the RS this year

Also was hoping to see Melvin Miller vs Jayden James at the US open but Melvin’s wrestling u20s and James is wrestling u17s.
Is Melvin older despite being a grade behind or is this just to get more competition or something since he’s already won a u17 world title (I think right?).
U20 57kg, 61kg and 65kg are stacked.

Smith had the balls to throw an ncaa finalist off his team before. Culture is important at mizzou, and it's not based solely on winning.
Are you really comparing Rocky Elam to Scott Barker?

Peterson will absolutely improve in our room. He beat Lilledahl and pinned Richie Figs this year. If he finds some consistency he could absolutely AA and possibly high AA.
Agreed - the take on Peterson is off. Kid is definitely AA in iowas room.

He’s also got 2 years left and underwhelmed at 184 this year. Is he a 197? I think I’d take the risk with Elam as he’s managed to AA 4 times regardless of injuries.
I suspect Elam is not going to happen.
