It's early but curious if anyone has been out yet. Thinking of heading up the weekend after next.
The Blackhawk Lake I'm talking about isn't located in Blackhawk County.Blackhawk lake, all the walleyes will bite but ya got to coat the bait with meth.
I was there last weekend. A few really nice crappie being caught but it was elbow to elbow fishing. I got away from the crowd and caught 3 nice ones but it took a long time. I'm camping there the 2nd week of May. Last year I got my limit of walleye every day that week. The Blackhawk Lake I'm talking about isn't located in Blackhawk County.

Edit to say actually I thought I got my limit every day. I thought the limit was still 3 but it's 5 now. I could have easily filled 5 every day if I'd had known. Lol
You're welcome. I love that lake. There is always a spot to comfortably fish no matter the wind or conditions and the fishing is usually very good to excellent. I grew up 10 miles from there so it's what I consider my home lake. Thanks!
Blackhawk has a lot to offer. Closest thing to a negative would be it is not the hidden gem it used to be. Used to be somewhat overlooked by the non locals (like me) but not anymore. You're welcome. Lol. I still do some bullheading. Lake views got big ones in there now. They're delicious before it gets too hot. They're fun to catch from the campsite while sitting around drinking all day.Blackhawk has a lot to offer. Closest thing to a negative would be it is not the hidden gem it used to be. My dads idea of fishing was bullheads. My first experience with Blackhawk as a kid was bullheading on the east side. Dad would say, " Not quite as good as the grade (Boji) but noone knows about it". As an adult I detest bullheads but Blackhawk but I've taken many crappie and walleye from her.
Part of my aversion to bullheads was when they were caught (always in the middle of summer because spring we were too busy farming) and secondly because my mother was a bad cook and overcooked everything. She would also plaster them in straight cornmeal which when combined with the overcooking made them like stinky leather.Lol. I still do some bullheading. Lake views got big ones in there now. I've have good luck with perch colored blades (with eyes) and artificials for walleye at BH.
At the marina in lake view yesterday. Not me so take it for what it's worth.
Yeah it's nuts how many people are there this weekend. I had to muscle my way in to the fish cleaning station. Lol Everyone had their limits. I might go back over after supper and get my dad's limit for him. Lol2 of us limited Thursday. Nothing huge... It was insane.....sunny and no breeze. Went on to Boji and due to the wind fished East yesterday. Overcast and a walleye chop (on paper it should have been a great day).......tons of boats and did not see a single walleye caught. Saw several snakes (including 1 in our boat) Did salvage the trip by fishing East for some excellent crappie and blue gills.
Was going to dump fishing Boji today and go back to Blackhawk but one of the guys got sick last night and needed to get back asap today. Had consoled ourselves the extra pressure of the weekend probably would spook the fish and there would be no repeat of Thursday...... looks like we were wrong
That is the difference. We do not like to hard fish at night in a boat anymore. We knew there would have been eyes caught after midnight on Friday night and decided not to go out for the night bite last night since we were getting up early to hit Blackhawk. Had we known about the sickness we would have probably gone back out about 6pm and fished till 9 or 10.Yeah it's nuts how many people are there this weekend. My brother lives in Milford. He and his wife limited out both nights of the opener Friday and Saturday overnight in Okoboji. All were 17 to 19 inches. I'm not sure what lake they were on.
There are so many eyes being taken from Black COck Lake it may not take long for the Lake to get raped. The thread title sounds like, “Black C0ck Lake” when you read it aloud.
