Saving seats for people who aren't even there

Happens at food and drink joints before big games too.
A lot of places now require you to have your entire party there before they will seat you. I agree with this method when dining out. Go to the bar, get a drink and app while waiting for your late party.

Most of the time it’s me, or should say wife and daughter for being so freaking slow getting ready then they expect me to drive 100 mph to get there on time and can’t understand why we are late when I can’t. I don’t care anymore and take my time driving to the place we are suppose to be. I just tell them you took your sweet a$$ time getting ready, I’ll take my time getting to the venue.

The leave early people are far worse than the save seat people. It’s ****ing rude to get up and leave early. Is it really that hard for you to sit there another 10 minutes? Judging by the smell of the people leaving early ay my daughter’s concert tonight, they were either sobering up or in desperate need of a smoke. Probably both.
Depends on the situation. I'm at a 2 hour school program for my grandkids and they are done in the first 20 minutes I'm leaving. I ain't sitting around watching strangers kids sing horribly for an hour and a half.

Sounds like the people that prob set the alarm on vacation to save their beach/pool chairs

After having experienced that back in the 90's I vowed to avoid any resort that is so crowded that is an issue. It's absurd.

On the most extreme end of this, in the north Jersey town where we raised our kids the 4th of July Parade was a huge tradition drawing thousands. The first year we were there we were driving downtown a few nights before and saw tons of folding chairs lining the streets. We asked WTF that was all about, and it turns out people would put their lawn chairs out four or five days in advance to reserve a spot. Spots that would be in the shade went particularly early. Crazy. And, yes, we started doing it, too.

The upshot of my kids having no musical talent is that we never cared about the seating game at grade school shows.

We sat in the back so we didn't block anyone videotaping, while our kids silently mouthed the words with stiff bodies and pained expressions.

It's actually the opposite it's Millennial behavior at it's best.
Both. All people seem to do this and try to take over seats, parking spots, and general areas.

We used to tailgate in parking lot at U of I for football games in the same spot every week and all other tailgaters did the same out of respect for one another. One week we showed up to the lot at 6 am with lawn chairs set up in most of our parking spots. We just laughed, moved them, and parked in our spots like normal and started to tailgate. About an hour later, the people showed up and wanted to know why we moved their chairs down from their spots. We said its first come, first serve as we had been parking in these same spots for years. They were new and thought they’d take over our area.

The next week we show up and they’ve got a couple teenage kids sitting in their chairs holding our spots again. We just laugh and go to an area of the parking lot as far away from them as possible. They again showed up an hour later and came over to where we parked and wanted to know why we didn’t park next to them as they enjoyed being by our tailgate with TV’s, music, and large gatherings of people, basically a huge party atmosphere. We said take them then if you really want them bad enough, we’ll just stay over here away from all of you.

Eventually, they quit coming to tailgate early so we were able to take back our spots the following year. Never saw them again after that one season. People are aholes and when they act the role, treat them as such.

We're going there for ten days in April. Love the resort, love the area, love Aruba.
I forwarded the link to my wife and she is totally down for this. Yoga, wellness, good food, drinks. The only thing is it looks like you could get bored. I think we would need to go with friends…

The resort we go to in Aruba has more palapas on the beach then guest rooms, so never an issue. Very few people hang out at the pool, so no issue there, either.
And therein lies the difference, no one at the pool as you all are on the beach. Go to the large AI resorts in Mex, Jam, DR, and it's a fight to get a chair.
