That was easily in my Top 5 games I've attended in terms of the overall atmosphere, how hyped and engaged the crowd was.....pure Iowa awesome! Kinnick was 90%+ full and ready to go a half hour before game time even in the student section! The East stands typically stand up just for key third downs or the first couple series but yesterday we were standing for the majority of the game. Although it certainly wasn't the first time it's been done, everyone turning on their cell phone lights looked pretty cool/eerie with the blackout. The place went absolutely berserk during Daniels breakout run. The I-O-W-A chant at the end was the loudest and most sustained I'd ever heard (granted it would've been nice for the D to have made a stop during that series). Great experience, history was made and the bacon was brought home, priceless. For the recruits that were there last night, how could you NOT want to play in that kind of environment??

The I-O-W-A chant was awesome. That's the second time this year (Pitt game) that the chant has been so loud and lasted so long. Unfortunately, the opposing team marched down the field with zero resistance from our defense both times. So although it sounds cool, the chant is obviously ineffective. I think we'd be better off making as much as much noise as possible while we're playing defense and do the chant while on offense

It was a magic night for sure but we could never quite relax. PLEASE lets get out front of Purdue big and early and get #11 next week. This team is special.

I think it was the drive before the victory formation series, but one of the best plays all night in my eyes was seeing Boone Myers block a LB 20 yards down field straight into the Minnesota bench. Lb gets up slaps Boone in the helmet and Boone just stared his ass down. Bullies of the B1G10.

Game and atmosphere were great all night, the only bad experience we had was these 3 women behind told us before the game started that every time they tap us on the butt that we need to sit down. I just looked at them and laughed but they kept tapping us and we just kept standing.

It was a fun night.

But as Mitch122 said, both times that the IOWA chant has gone on past the kick-off this season, the other team has driven 80 yards and scored a touchdown. I think it throws off our continuity on defense.

Yes to this. The band also tried sneaking in Hey Jude during a break in the 4th quarter before the P.A. folks drowned them out with music not designed to put a fanbase to sleep.
Yep. I am sorry, but the Iowa band is antiquated and boring. How long as that guy been running it? Get with the times.

Either do a "Newkirk" with the band or GTFO.

Yeah, I don't get the "sit down" people. Hell, I hardly sit when I am watching at home. Why in the hell do I want to sit when I paid to go watch live and help create an atmosphere. If you want to sit, stay home and watch it on tv

I had a guy ask me to sit earlier this year and it was during a TV timeout. The team wasn't even on the field. Smh

There are some games it can be rude to be the I'm going to stand all day guy. Last night wasn't one of them. In fact the rude ones were the sit down people.

My rule of them if everybody around you is standing, stand. If everyone around you is sitting, sit. It's rallying not that hard of a concept.

Can someone please post a gif or vine of this? I would love to see that!

Is this WOB or just bad autocorrect? I found it funny - not trying to be grammar police -

It was freaking awesome, and it was the best game I've been too in a long time. The entire town was hopping like mad, and the game was electric as hell. The IOWA CHANT at the end of the game, just kept going and going, it was beautiful.

And they were hot? Or not? Hot I stand all game.

One moment I really loved was the ovation the o-line got as they waited for the rest of the offense in the north end zone during one of the timeouts. Five guys solemnly standing alone out there under the lights while 10s of thousands roared for them.

There were great moments and periods of strange quiet. Laughed my butt of at the guy behind me who pronounced loudly..."10 yards for unsportsmanlike flatulance"! My 16 year old daughter (no pics) laughed about it the rest of the game.

North end zone sucks - everyone was sitting and asking you to sit. Not even enough room to sit comfortably. Also they need to put the opposing team's fans at the top of the section and not in the middle giving them better seats and having to deal with some a-holes in front of you.

Personally, I miss the "in Heaven there is no Beer", and "Cocaine". They got rid of the latter 20 years ago.

The opposing team's fans are not in the middle...they are in the upper NW corner. The NEZ also does not suck. They have a great I-O-W-A IOWA IOWA IOWA chant...especially when Bob leads it.

NEZ is great. It was jam packed in the middle, but if you buy several groups of 3-4 season tickets in different places around the stadium, then you can move around in situations like this. I usually give away about a dozen a game, but hold on to another dozen so I can move around if I have to. First game I actually had to do it this year, because there was plenty of space for the other games.

Yeah, but they also scored or got a first down everyone we simply made loud noises. So that didn't work either. The I-O-W-A chant was awesome. But give Minny credit, they were blocking out the crowd all night.

Me too. Love their version. Not everything has to be hard rock.

always a fan. but i'm old enough to remember when it was always played, and just sang along because its just what you do.

had 4-6 people around us last night that felt the same way. good times...

7x4 = 28, over 2 dozen. Multiple equals more than one.

Retard.

And nobody has that many tickets. Except me. I buy 45 per year, and then just randomly change my seat location depending on where the sun is and how hard the wind is blowing.

That was, indeed, really cool. I kept expecting them to acknowledge the crowd somehow but they just stood there like a bunch of plow horses waiting to do their job. It was actually cooler that they didn't acknowledge the roar of the crowd, IMO, almost as if to say, "We'll celebrate with you all and go get that pig over there after we're done taking care of business."

They were in the upper NW corner and about 3-4 deep across the upper middle of NEZ around row 45.

I am evidently the only person in the state that misses Hey Jude. (although they played part of it during a TO yesterday)
Nope, you're not alone. Miles ahead of Sweet Caroline. Iowa State's band plays that song. It's also a Red Sox theme. Note: those are two very, very bad things to be associated with.

Oh, and people insist on injecting extra lyrics inbetween lines of the chorus. Drives me nuts. I don't even know how it got started, but it totally ruins the song.
