Block or charge

Both teams celebrated the play, as they should have. It was awesome.

Why the poster framed it as racial is a mystery.

It was a charge. I think most refs would consider the absolute dominance of the play and not call a charge here though.

Charges don’t get called when the player is moving.

It could go either way. I’m just thinking what most refs would call. I could be wrong.
The defender was there even before the guy started driving to the basket. A charge, no doubt.

It is a matter of being in position. I think it was Mulvey who was defending and he slightly moved a foot for balance.

If Mulvey's arms would have been out toward the Wash player and his hands and arms made first contact then that might have been a defensive foul.

But his arms were straight up in his cylinder, A charge

This is the exact type of play for which the small arc was created — take the offensive foul out of play and produce better highlight reels in the hopes of offsetting declining ratings. Unfortunately, the defender was outside the arc. Offensive foul on purple.

People calling it a posterizing. Posterizing happens when the defender attempts a block and the dunk still happens, or when the dunk goes up over the top of the defensive player and still happens.

The scorebook has no recorded dunk on this play. The defender played it perfectly. Textbook example of taking one for the team.
