Bohannon vs Gesell

Was curious so I looked at Gesell's 30 game senior year stats & JBo thru 17 games.

Gesell avg 8.4 ppg in 30 min at 41.2% fg, 73% ft, 38% 3pt with 3.1 reb, 5.1 assists, 1.9 TO, 1.3 steals

JBo. avg 8.8 ppg in 27 min at 39.1% fg., 89% ft, 36% 3pt with 2.4 reb, 4.8 assists, 2.3 TO, .5 steals.

I did the math part. You guys do the B.S. part.....

What is a good way to measure these guys defensively? In the Nebraska game, I though Bohannon was absolutely brutal on the defensive end. Couldn't stay in front of people and couldn't pressure the ball.

Freshman vs. Senior

That says it all and I like them both. But in 4 years Jobo will be more highly regarded IMHO.
I couldn't agree more!
I think JBo is an upgrade. He's playing PG that isn't his natural position. Mike G was a good defender, but was painful to watch on the offensive end last year. He couldnt shoot and his end game decision making was brutal.

Dissagree, Mike had the highest vertical on the team other than the years he played with May.

Go watch some of the dunks he did durring the team dunk contests. Theyre probably on youtube somewhere.

Mike was way more athletic than Horner or JBO, if you take athleticism to mean explosiveness and speed.

Athleticism doesnt make one a good basketball player. It can help but if you dont have the handle, the shot and the instincts it doesnt matter.

Well I agree athleticism is not all you need. You need some skills. However in Gesell's case, he lacked elite Quickness and that is why I don't see him as being huge upgrade athletically over bohannon.

Gesell could jump pretty well. Jumping alone gives you Eric May. Valuable role player, but not able to do a lot offensively other than do some nice dunks.

I think Bohannon will end up being a better shooter than Gesell and better overall offensive player. He seems quicker and a better finisher than Mike was.

Defensively, Mike was very good. Obviously, Jordan is only a freshman so I expect this area to improve greatly. I do think in four years we will look back and say Jordan was a better overall player than Mike. We shall see though.
Bohannon is already a much better shooter than Gessel. I don't think he's quicker than Gessel as Mike is an under rated athlete. I agree that Bohannon will have the better 4 year career

To me, the mark of a good PG is A/T ratio. JB doesn't get it done with the blazing speed that many are hung up on. But 5ast/2.2TO for a freshman is VERY good- and is the mark of a REAL PG. MG averaged 2.6ast/1.7TO as a frosh and by his senior year ball control was his forte. Could JB play SG next to another guard? Sure. But right now he's well on his way to being one of the better offensive ball control PGs in the conference- lack of speed be D$&med.

Foot quickness and ability to shake a defender with dribling arent the same thing.

Most of basketball is instinct and skill. The guys who have it look quick, the ones that dont look slow.

Theres nobody better at going by people with the dribble than Kyrie Irving right now and he is on the very low end of the spectrum athletically for the nba.

The stat that jumps out is ft shooting. Bohannon shooting 89% from the line as a freshman. Mikey only 73% as a senior. Jordan stepping to the line and knocking down a pair with 11 seconds to go last night, THANK YOU!

Mike was a tough wierdly athletic player. His biggest issue as a PG was his inability to stretch the defense as he almost regressed with his shooting through his time here. At the end of his career teams weren't even guarding him on the perimeter and in todays CBB, that is a giant no-no. You have to have a PG that stretches the defense and opens up lanes to cut and score.

Also, MG was the opposite of clutch at the FT line and that is HUGE for a PG during close games.

JBO is already better for our offense than MG imo but his D is lacking some still.
