Or programs started stocking the various basketballs they would encounter over the schedule. Also, the UnderArmour ball has evolved to be not so drastically different than the Nike ball used by most (since most schools are Nike schools).

I realize a lot of you will never want to move an inch on this, but the basketball can make a difference. I will never forget a game I had a bunch of years ago at Middle Tennessee State. I was top 10 in 3pt shooting nationally at the time. We’re warming up and I’m loving the feel of this different ball, partly because it felt light and just seemed to fly off my release, like effortlessly.

Then the game starts and my first 3 from outside the top of key banks in. And that was the only shot I made. 1 for 14. Solid looks all game, had nothing to do with the competition or pace or legs or open windows in the gym lol. The ball was so light-feeling, and we all had a rough night with it.

That was 25 or so years ago, before programs made sure they had a quantity of each major brand of ball to practice with in advance of a matchup. Nowadays Iowa will use an underarmour ball during the days/week leading up to Maryland or Northwestern. But even so, especially if it is a really different-feeling ball, it can have an effect.

Heck I practiced with an NAIA team for a few years and they had a full stock of different basketballs that were used in the conference. The worst one I remember was "The Rock." I think it was some small brand. That ball was so heavy and just made shooting 3s nearly impossible if you weren't used to it. Our coach literally had us use an entire different offensive sets when we used that ball so that we would operate more inside and shooting midrange jumpers. It is wild how much a ball can effect things.

Let's go jbo. And the ball does make a ton of difference, the ncca is dumb not to use the same type throughout

And some rims are tighter than others, which also makes a difference

Who was the other Iowa guy Bohannon was talking about?

Ryan Hogan?
