Bout at the Ballpark

Mastro took neutral to start the 2nd. Must be an injury issue with the knee.

TD Ybarra! 2-0. Mastro limping a bit. Escape Mastro. 2-1 Ybarra end of 2nd

3rd- Ybarra takes neutral aswell. Another TD Ybarra on the edge! Up 4-1. Escape Mastro. 4-2. TD Mastro 4-4. Escape Yabarra. 5-4. 30 seconds. Mastro gets the TD to win 6-5 as time expires. Damn.

Brands throws the brick as time was close.
Even thru the wild turk, this was the best I've seen out of Ybarra

I'm guessing GalIagher would have have been sold out. I was there last night. It was a fun event but the place was so damn big that it was missing atmosphere for sure. Also had some the best non-floor seats possible and still had to watch the action on the big screen. Kudos to John Smith, Tom Brands and Flo for trying something new but my non wrestling friends were kind of bored since we were so far from the action. That definitely wouldnt have been the case had I taken them to the duel at Carver or Gallagher.
Probably should have used Dickie's Arena in Fort Worth. 14,000 capacity, could have added floor seating to increase. Would have been a much better venue for what we saw last night. Fans would have been on top of the action instead way off in the distance.

We were there last night. The most interesting part of the international matches were the womens matches. I watched pretty much all of it on the big screen as we were too far away.

However the pre match gathering at Texas Live was awesome. Preponderance of Iowa fans for sure. The pre and post match were almost like being in Iowa City bars

Check out the thread on ticket scarcity for NCAAs. These kinds of stadiums would be a solution.
Ahhhh, good point. I'm reminded of 2 years ago when ncaa's were to be held at US Bank stadium in minneapolis. That was an ideal setup to maximize in-person viewership that unfortunately never happened. I'd be very interested to see that event in a similar venue in the near future. Anyone know if that is on the table someone soon?

Just saw a tweet from a guy named Kyle Bowlsby and I can't seem to post it for some reason.

He suggested to hold a dual at The Field of Dreams.

Wrestlers come out of the rows of corn for introductions.

Works for me :D
Sounds like he crosses the river a lot for provisions. Definitely a field I could set up a tree stand around.

We stayed in a cheap motel on Collins as we were only going to be in the room for 8 hours. At first I was just going to walk there and back. But given it was going to be 32 and walking on the city street at midnight we elected to buy the 35 parking at the stadium. Glad we did. At the door the parking was 40.

WTH does that mean?
I assume he's complimenting the state of Nebraska and TG's religious educuation cause he prefaced his statement with a compliment citing TG as being a Positively Outstanding Student. Jaydin Eierman is a Positively Outstanding Student too right? It is kind of touching Menace

Huh,

I was with Kyle prior to that event. His dad even showed up for a bit.

Shout out to Joe "Great Hair" Conklin for taking time out of his busy schedule to chat for a bit. Great guy.

No standing corn during college wrestling season.

You guys want them to walk through dried-up, brown cornstalks. Not a good look, and a good way to get sliced up wearing a singlet (although it would be worse when the leaves are more solid). Love the Field of Dreams, but this is a bad idea. I'm too lazy to look up stats, but I'll bet by mid-November on an average year83% of corn is harvested, especially with so many people drying it these days, although that might be REALLY expensive this year.

FIFY; Not much standing corn during college wrestling season.

I’m not saying it’s a good idea to do this, but to say it’s not possible for the reasons you’re mentioning is untrue. Also I know about farming. Signed: a farmer.

Who cares if there is or isn’t standing corn, let alone how dry it is? That would be an excellent venue to hold an outdoor dual in Iowa. Hell, you could hold the dual with combines in action even!

I never said it wasn't possible. I'm not trying to start a fight here, just see below my opinion on this. I, also have done some farming, although I have never owned a farm.

OK, as I said, I love the Field of Dreams, I have been there several times and totally understand its significance in the state of Iowa. But what would be gained by it? You're risking bad weather, you're incurring unnecessary expenses, and, if I'm not mistaken, you're reducing seating capacity. I have not seen the new "major league" ballpark there, so I could be misspeaking, but isn't the seating capacity less than that of CHA? If so, it would most likely be a money-losing endeavor just to be doing something different. I don't hate the idea, I just don't see the point. You're not going to set a record crowd there like at Kinnick or the possibility that major league stadiums and ballparks offer, and the possible drawbacks outweigh any advantages from it, other than publicity.

OK, I'll leave it alone now, just felt a need to play devil's advocate this morning. Don't want to rain on anyone's parade. I'm more than ready for Grapple on the Gridiron, Part Deaux, but this would have been the year to do it for setting new records. The team is going to be down a bit for the next couple of years. and fan support most likely with it. I really hope I'm wrong about both of those things, but I doubt I am.

Can you define "down". Because I'm betting Spencer Lee disagrees as does Murin, Kennedy, Warner, and Cass. We have the nucleus to be in the trophy talk. Add a top 4 157 and we are in the discussion for number depending on how many transfers carl gets. Spencer will also keep attendance high.

I'm not being negative here, just realistic. You've named half a team. Who do we have at 133, 141, 157, 174 that are going to score as many points as we have there now? And we're not the favorites with what we have. How exactly do you plan to add a" Top4" 157 out of thin air? The portal doesn't always work in magical ways. Also, as much as I love Kennedy, he has not yet shown the ability to score the points that Marinelli is capable of, whether he has or not. Assad has become a big question mark of late as well.
I said I hoped I was wrong. Time will tell.

I'm sorry. I just want to see us finish this year strong and bring home a trophy, hopefully, the yellow one. That's enough of an uphill battle at this point, but doable. We're bringing in several guys I'm excited about, but you're living in a fantasy world if you think next year we're going to replace ADS, Eierman, Young, The Bull, and Kemdog with equal or greater talent. Fortunately, PSU loses a couple guys too, but not nearly what we do. Spencer being back helps what we would have had, but one guy (or four) can't win a team title these days.

Can you define "down" as in will we be top 5. Top 10? Your the one in a fantasy world if my post made you feel like I think we are replacing Kem Bull ADS and Jayden with equal or greater talent. I never said anything like that. Of course we won't be as good as this year on paper. Unfortunately that paper has turned into an injury at too many weights.
I simply asked you to define down. You implied we would be down enough to lose fan support ( some for sure but how much?). I offered up 5 weights that will win most nights which will win most duals due to Spencer Bonus. I also offered up the biggest fan draw in the country in Lee. Stick to what I said instead of the garbage about the 5 weights I didn't list and bringing up a transfer like it's unheard of when we've literally done it with Jayden and ADS already. Those 5 weights will be solid also. I also said I think we will be a top 5 team. If that is a down year to you on an obvious rebuild than we have different opinions on it which is fine. I could easily see us being top 3 and maybe better with a transfer.
I think next years team will score within 20 points of this years at nationals. I think they will break 100 points if they land one top tier transfer. Give me your predictions.

Not contending for a title is a "down" year in Iowa wrestling. Anything less than a championship is losing.
By losing fan support, I don't expect a sell-out of season tickets. We might drop to 8-9,000. A lot of people (even on this board) started advertising tickets for sale as soon as Spencer made his announcement. He'll be back next year, but he didn't sell ALL those tickets. The potential of another team championship sold a lot of them. That potential will not likely be there next year. I could be wrong, but I don't see us topping 42,000 for a meet at Kinnick next year. I think we might have at the beginning of this year.
I didn't say we couldn't land a Top 4 157, but the odds are against it. How many Top 4s are there (4), and how many would leave where they are, or be that good coming out of HS and not already committed elsewhere?
I'm not arguing with you, we want the same thing, but what I want isn't happening and I'm not getting my hopes up, to have them crushed. Too much of that in this world already.
My predictions are Top 5 probably, a trophy possibly, not a National title. And, once again, I hope we're better than expected.

4 157, but the odds are against it. How many Top 4 4s are there (4), and how many would leave where they are, or be that good coming out of HS and not already committed elsewhere?

I would say we're mostly in agreement. I think we will bring home a trophy so splitting hairs. Attendance will likely drop a little depending on the schedule but Spencer is a huge needle mover there. I must of taken your post wrong on how down you thought the team we would be. I agree we expect the title every year. I also don't think that's a realistic expectation after losing so many studs.
Edited to add I'm a little on edge based on something I heard. Sorry I have to be vague about it.

197 Warner
285 Cass
I would wager this is a trophy team. Depending on 157 and if 133 & 141 can jump levels a title contending team. I'm excited about next year.
Seems like there are a lot of SRs at 41 this year, so that weight class will clear out quite a bit. Good opportunity for Henson.

They could leave a few rows of corn outside the ball field all winter long if they wanted. I've got neighbors that have left some up for cover and hunting purposes. It happens more than most know.

If they build it, we WILL come!

Turn the lights down low and I'm sure money can buy fake green corn stalks for twenty by twenty area and this will work. But you're miles away from Iowa City and most of your fan base. And if it was to snow or really be cold than it would be hard to get to another venue at last min...
Get Penn State and do another one at Kinnick Stadium in late Oct. and get 50,000...

The field of Dreams is cool(went there last fall). But the actual field is a little league field. The major league game was held on an adjoining field with a temporary stadium(which was taken down after the game). There are light standards still up(it wasnt temporary lighting). Tried to go look at it but the security guards would not allow it as its behind a gate with a big no go sign.

Trophy team? Sure. Title contenders? Except for Lee and Cass, this line-up is mostly unproven so far. That doesn't mean that we won't be team title contenders next year. It just means that there's lots of things that need to fall into place with recruiting, development, and recovery from injuries.

Some high-level transfers at our weaker weights could help. If nothing else, they could be the "next man up" when starters have injuries. They also provide higher-level competition at practice. Iron sharpens iron. This year, we've seen the value of a deep bench.

The only real big question marks in my mind are 157 and 184 as far as at least making the podium. I thought Abe Assad would be better than he has been and I can't see him making that big leap. Schreiver, Henson and Kennedy are unproven, but could really come on as full time starters. Kennedy is the one that really needs to bring it.

Murin and Brands will likely be one point away from hitting the consolation side at any time, and probably Warner too, but Warner has shown his mettle on the back side before. Brands could surprise too, I think he'll be much better at 174, but his overall game isn't good enough to be a Finalist IMO. Bonus will likely be hard to come by outside of Spencer and Cass as it sits today. So a lot needs to happen for this current group to contend for a Team Title IMO, but stranger things have happened.
