I think there is a lot more importance to where Iowa goes bowling than many people think.

1) You have to want Wisconsin at all costs to win the Big Ten championship as that will give Iowa a best chance to get to the Music City Bowl. Wisconsin at 13-0 will be 100% guarantee to get to the CFP.
I do not think Ohio State with 2 losses including one bad one to us gets them past Oklahoma,Clemson. Miami, Alabama , Auburn or even Georgia should they beat Auburn in the SEC championship game.

Wisconsin. CFP
Ohio State- Fiesta or Peach
PSU- Cotton
Northwestern - Citrus
MSU- Outback
Michigan - Holiday
Iowa- Music City
Pinstripe- Purdue

If Ohio State wins I think that they get left out of the CFP and everyone gets kicked down a notch. I can definitely see Wisconsin and Ohio State securing a Big 6 bid but not three Big Ten teams or one of the three end up in the Orange Bowl and then the Big Ten cannot have a representative in the Citrus Bowl.

Ohio State- Orange
Wisconsin-Peach or Fiesta
PSU- Cotton
Michigan State- Outback
Michigan- Holiday
Northwestern-Music City
Iowa- Pinstripe
Purdue- Foster Farm

If we go to the Pinstripe bowl it will be a big mistake.

1) I can guarantee you the we will send less than10,000 fans. No one is going to travel to NYC In the middle of the Holiday season and sit in the snow to watch a 7-5 Iowa team. Tampa yes, Nashville yes but NYC no chance. This will certainly hurt our reputation as a fan base that will follow our team anywhere.

2) It will be a big disappointment to the team and players ... I think they will just pack it up and say screw it resulting in another bowl loss .

While I can see some point in the fans maybe not wanting to go to New York, the players being disappointed shouldn't matter. They've gotten some nice, scenic bowl destinations the last three years and gotten their asses kicked anyway. The LSU Outback bowl was competitive enough to get a pass, and I'm not sure we don't come back and win if Rudock doesn't get knocked out right when the offense finally got some momentum. But playing in the Pinstripe couldn't possible be worse than those, even if they don't want to be there. More of the same at worst.

The Pinstripe Bowl is a terrible tie in for the B1G. Other than PSU, Maryland and Rutgers it is not an attractive destination for any B1G team's fanbase.

The one positive about the Pinstripe Bowl is that Florida State is a real possibility if they finish 6-6. I know they are down, but it'd be fun to play a program like FSU.

I'd love to play Boston College. Mostly because I don't think we've ever played them. I know nothing about the football team so don't flame me.

When it comes to the bowl game, I don't care where Iowa goes as long as they win. I don't care if they play in Nome, Alaska, on a high school football field made of ice with less than ten people in the stands, just win the damn game this year! I'm not hooking up any travel plans to Iowa football until they show they can win or, at the very least, play a quality, competitive game for 60 full minutes so they aren't humiliated once again. They SHOULD be hungrier than a bear coming out of hibernation this year even if there are zero Hawk fans at the game, ready to gnaw off their arm if it helps them break a tackle, ready to eat their grandmother if it gives them a better chance to win. These guys have to WANT it this year.

I don't like the prospect of Iowa going to the Pinstripe Bowl either, but are you suggesting the team should not accept an invite?

I also agree - attendance would be down at the Pinstripe. Expensive & cold.

But, I don't necessarily agree that it would be a big disappointment to the players. There is a lot to do and see in NYC, especially if you get shuttled around like Kings. They will almost certainly play a P5 team that they have never played before in historic Yankee Stadium.

At this point, I'd favor Music City, and there is no second place. I'm not sure how many people would travel to San Fran at the end of Dec either.

I remember NW fans hated it last year and the main reason was the traffic I believe the team missed a day of practice because of it and had a work through in the parking lot.

I wonder if Pinstripe board members even want Iowa now. Didn’t Barta make a statement that NY hotels are too expensive and fans should get hotels in New Jersey if the Hawkeyes end up there?
It just seems weird the AD would steer the business they’re counting on to a different area.

I believe that the Pinstripes reps suggested New Jersey as having less expensive hotels in response to Barta’s comments on how expensive it would be for our fans.

I agree winning a bowl game and breaking our streak is important.

Winning the game far exceeds location.

They must break the narrative which is Iowa plays a weak schedule, overachieves against one or two really good teams, then is overmatched and a complete flop in the bowl game.

A win against ANY TEAM in ANY LOCATION is preferable to continuing the now 7 year long losing streak.

So, while I personally agree that going to a bowl in the NYC area would be only slightly higher on my site list than downtown Detroit, getting a win is what matters.

I really don’t think the NYC economy hinges on the attendance of the Pinstripe Bowl. Not even sure NYC knows or even cares the game exists.

I guarantee new york will not even notice the fans are in town. It makes zero difference where you stay. The trains are easy to use. Stay in the city if you can though.

This game is huge for growth and development no matter what. The "young" narrative got a little over played but the facts are 1 additional month of practice for this team is huge.

How much warmer will Nashville be than NYC? 10-15 degrees?

Nashville temp would be between 30 and 60. On average Its 15 to 20 degrees warmer than iowa city in the winter.

The Iowa fans would love a bowl here. The stadium is down town next to lower Broadway where the honky tonks are. Nashville embraces the bowl game and the fans. New York would consider it a hindrance.

A bowl game in the NYC-New Jersey area is not even a blip on the screen as a sporting event or economically.
While I have no interest in Nashville, it's relatively easy to see that this is more important there locally and would be a far larger fan draw.
Unless it was Rutgers(maybe the Terps) in the bowl, and I have no idea if there is even a significant fan base to speak of that would care, a bowl in NYC looks like it would be a poor draw for most big ten fans.
