Big Ten Conference Announces Suspension of Wisconsin Men’s Basketball Player Brad Davison and Issues Public Reprimand

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference office announced today that Wisconsin men’s basketball player Brad Davison has been suspended for one game and issued a public reprimand for violating the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy after he fouled an opposing player with 32 seconds remaining in the second half against Iowa on Jan. 27, 2020. Davison received a flagrant 1 personal foul from the game officials for his action. Davison is ineligible to play in Wisconsin’s next game on Feb. 1, 2020 against Michigan State.

“We expect all of our student-athletes to compete and play hard; however, they must always do so in a civil manner that is consistent with the rules of the game and in the spirit of good sportsmanship," said Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren. “We will not tolerate behavior that compromises the health and safety of our student-athletes or crosses the line of aggressive, competitive play, especially when a pattern of similar behavior has been previously established.”

Big Ten Conference Agreement 10.01 states in part that “The Big Ten Conference expects all contests involving a member institution to be conducted without compromise to any fundamental element of sportsmanship. Such fundamental elements include integrity of the competition, civility toward all, and respect, particularly toward opponents and officials.”

The Big Ten Conference considers this matter concluded.

Should have been longer, this guy seems to be building a highlight reel of behavior like this.
Sounds like they considered that in taking this action. Frankly, I've never seen this done by the league before. Yes, it was ruled a flagrant 1, but its not like he threw a punch or something or got an intentional F2. I thinks he's garnered some attention for seeking out this type of borderline dirty play, and this is his warning shot.

No, he only tried to punch Connor in the nuts. Nothing to see here. Not to mention trying to under cut JW’s legs when shooting a three pointer.

Exactly. Honestly the play was dirty, but not the WORST seen by him. If this was a one time deal, there wouldn't have been a suspension.

He's earned this suspension over the last 3 years and honestly, probably should be more. It WILL be Mort the next time. I about guarantee there WILL be a next time, he's not going to change his "playing style"

Between this and Kobe King leaving (who said Wisconsin was his dream school) Wisconsin isn't looking to good right now

Believe me, I'm not advocating on his behalf. Just haven't seen the league do this before without it being really a brawl or something. I think he'll be monitered closely for awhile anyway.

Doug, kick him off the tour!

Well deserved, and handled pretty quickly and well IMO. If Davison does anything similar, he won't be playing at Wisconsin or the B1G again.

Wisky fans are saying it's too much punishment for a flagrant 1 - the call on the floor should've been a flagrant 2.

This is the first time he's been suspended for this type of behavior, correct? And just one game? Seems light.
I haven't heard of any prior suspensions and the only reason I believe that they took action was because the outcry was so great. Plus, all of the documentation and footage regarding his previous improprieties. It is a soft "slap" for sure, but who knows what this "slap" will produce? Hopefully Gard tells him that if this happens again, there will be severe consequences, up to and including expulsion from the University, and/or expulsion from UW sports. Is it a "start?" Hope this shyt stops. We'll see.

In your opinion, do you think Fran / Gary made a very heated argument to the B1G office, especially since this now happened to one of the Iowa players? I don't think Davison has done anything vs Iowa other than flop.

Davison is leaving quite a legacy for himself. The internet will not be kind to him moving forward. His kids will google their dad's name and they will see video of him punching other men in the family jewels.

Gotta feel sorry for his kids. I hope he hasn't hurt any players who may decide to have kids of their own some day! It would not surprise me if Fran and Gary didn't had a "pow wow" with the Commish. We need to get Dochterman on the trail! :)

huh? They just suspended the Illini douche, Alan Griffin, for two games for stepping on a PU player’s chest. Just me...but I’d take the chest step any day over a punch in the nibblets.

yeah, considering Davison's history and what the Illini player got, one game is not enough. I would have given him 3 games and a zero tolerance warning moving forward

Stunning action for the Big Ten. Maybe some of the very widespread discontent with the special rules that have benefited Bucky and Sparty has reached the point that the league has to show a little integrity. It has been far more than just Iowa fans bitching in a chat room.

Bucky has been pulling that shit since the badger faced rodent Ryan arrived on the scene.

You know, I've got no problem with physical teams that figure their rough style will give up a lot of free throws but calculate exhaustion and execution late in the game will more than compensate for the free throws (e.g. Celtics). The problem happens when the physical teams, of which Wisconsin and MSU (the old Pistons are another) are good examples, get to play physical and pretty dirty and don't get called for anywhere close to the fouls they are committing. It makes them virtually unbeatable.

I would go with a split 2-game suspension. The first game would be his team’s next game and the second would be his NEXT game verses Iowa. Since they don’t play again in regular season, if it is the BTT, that is game two. If they don’t meet this year, carry forward unless he graduates.

Not enough. He's been doing this for 2-1/2 years now.

He's psychotic - sticking his feet under Jordan Murphy to get him to twist/break an ankle on a rebound; punching opponents in the nuts; sweeping Wieskamp's leg on the 3 attempt from behind, risking a knee injury to him; forcefully hooking McCaffrey's crotch and risking a groin injury (which is an injury that has kept Livers of MI out for a couple of weeks).

He's gotta go. One game suspension ain't gonna change the demeanor. He's done this for years, and he's used up his Mulligans and chits.

Keep emailing the BT until they cut him - before he hurts a star player on another BT team. Because he'll keep doing this as soon as he's back. Next Opp is MN. Post those email links for the BT media for them to start bombing the BT with angry notes.

Get this cancer out of the league. Yesterday.
